URGENT ACTION: TELL EPA TO SAVE BRISTOL BAY AND VETO The Trump administration has helped revive Pebble Mine, a project that could devastate Bristol Bay—the most productive salmon fishery in all of Alaska, and the largest sockeye salmon fishery in the world. INTERACTIVE MAPPING TOOL Puget Soundkeeper’s interactive mapping tool allows you to explore water quality, habitat, and current issues impacting the health of our watershed. This mapping tool is designed for informational purposes only. While we do our best to keep information current, this map is not updated in real time. Do not use this tool to make decisions onOUR STRATEGIES
We accomplish our mission by actively patrolling the waters of Puget Sound, enforcing the Clean Water Act, engaging with businesses, government, agencies and community members, and pursuing strong policy and proactive solutions to the problem of toxic pollution. PUGET SOUNDKEEPER ALLIANCE The Swim Guide is a smart phone and web application that makes it easy for Northwest-area residents to find a safe beach for swimming and other recreation. Updates for Puget Sound beaches are managed locally by staff at Soundkeeper. Saltwater and freshwater beaches areincluded.
MONITORING AND ENFORCEMENT Through active monitoring, and with the help of volunteer and community reports, Soundkeeper identifies potential pollution problems within the Puget Sound basin. Resolution of pollution problems is sought through negotiation and, if necessary, legal action to defend the health of Puget Sound. Upholding Pollution Laws for a CleanerSound.

2019-2020 STUDY RESULTS: MICROPLASTICS IN PUGET SOUND Scientists everywhere are finding microplastics in our air, soil, and drinking water. Oceanic and atmospheric circulation, like currents and wind, move these tiny, sesame-seed sized plastics to every part of the globe, infecting our waterways, agriculture, and wildlife. The plastic crisis shows just how connected the planet really is, and the detrimental impacts plastics have on both aquatic AGRICULTURAL POLLUTION Agricultural Pollution. Agriculture is the leading cause of pollution to streams and rivers nationwide, and a major cause of water pollution, closure of shellfish beds and closure of swimming beaches in Washington. Puget Soundkeeper works to strengthen policies addressing nutrient pollution and agricultural stormwater runoff atthe State level.
MEET OUR NEW PUGET SOUNDKEEPER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR We are pleased to introduce Chris Rilling, our new Puget Soundkeeper and Executive Director. Chris brings over 30 years of experience in marine ecosystems management and has devoted his career to preserving our nation’s natural resources on land and at sea.
