About Project Pluto: Project Pluto supplies astronomical software, both commercial and freeware, to amateur and professional astronomers. The foremost product is the Guide DVD Star Chart, a powerful general-purpose charting/desktop planetarium tool. The main purpose of this program is star chart generation, and it is unsurpassed in thisarea
MPC STATION SITES
Positions measured from Google Earth. Altitude for (T05) is from the MPC file and is good to 1e-6 Earth radius = 6.3 meters. Altitudes for (F65) and (608) are from the same source, but given to one less digit = 63 meter precision. DKIST alt is from https://dkist.nso.edu/faq,with a 17
TELESCOPE ENCODERS
Almost all encoders are "Tangent Instruments boxes". This includes the Lumicon, Celestron Advanced AstroMaster, Orion SkyWizard, Ouranos, MicroGuider III, DeepSpace Navigator, JMI's NGC-Max, B-Box, and probably some others. These boxes have different prices and built-inobject databases.
JUPITER SATELLITE EVENTS Jupiter satellite events and GRS times for 2020 . Following are times for the shadow, transit, occultation, and eclipse events for Jupiter's four major satellites over the above time period.EPHEMERIS GENERATOR
Ephemeris generator . Use the form below to generate orbital elements and ephemerides for NEOCP and other solar system objects. You should use this form if you have astrometry for an object. Suggested quick start: Don't panic! Just enter the object designation and click the FIND_ORB ORBIT DETERMINATION SOFTWARE Find_Orb is a user-friendly program that handles the initial determination of the orbit using the methods of Gauss, Herget, Väisälä, and others. Given some more observations, it can find a "best fit" orbit using the method of least squares . SATELLITE IDENTIFICATION PROGRAM FOR ASTROMETRISTS Suppose you have a file with MPC-formatted astrometry called vfmo.ast. You would open a terminal, change to the folder containing sat_id, and run. ./sat_id vfmo.ast. The program would read through the file, pausing at each observation as it looks for possible matches within four degrees that have roughly matching motion. GUIDE 8.0 UPDATE FILES Updated software for Guide 8.0 . This page will only help if you have the Guide 8.0 CDs; click here for updates to Guide 9 and 9.1 or here for updates to Guide 7 or here for updates to Guide 6 or here for updates to Guide 5, or here for information about ordering Guide 9.1. Japanese version here How to use the update files: To get the update and the features listed below, download one of theORDERING GUIDE 9.0
Ordering information: As of 2015 January 6, Guide 9.0 has been discontinued. Click here for information on Guide 9.1. What's new (relative to Guide 8.0): The biggest improvement came from the fact that the program and data are now distributed on DVD, instead of on the two CD-ROMs used for Guide 8.0. This provided about four GBytes ofroom
FORMULA FOR JUPITER'S CENTRAL MERIDIANS AND GREAT RED SPOT Formula for Jupiter's central meridians and Great Red Spot transits Last changed 2009 Feb 14 . Recently, someone who saw my Web page about Great Red Spot transit times asked for the formulae or algorithms I used to determine my results. I was not able to give a really simple answer to that question. PROJECT PLUTOINTERESTING EVENTS TO SIMULATEJOVIAN EVENTSTELESCOPECONTROL

DESCRIPTION OF TLE (TWO-LINE ELEMENT) DATA Description of TLE (Two-line Element) data. Ted Molczan, 23 September 1996; modified by Bill Gray, 2016 August 28. Orbital elements for earth-orbiting objects are often given in the "two-line element" format. It's been a common data exchange format for decades; most artsat software (including some on this site) can make use of it. FIXING MPC 80-COLUMN OBSERVATIONAL DATA Fixing MPC 80-column observational data . The Minor Planet Center has traditionally accepted data in the "80-column" or "punch-card" format. The MPC has extensive documentation of this format, which looks somewhat cryptic; there is an effort to store a lot of information in a mere eighty bytes, a relic of a time when punched cards walked theearth.
