EU COUNCIL URGES CLARIFICATION ON HOW GDPR APPLIES TO NEW EU Council urges clarification on how GDPR applies to new technologies. In its position on the application of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the European Union’s Council of Ministers states that while the GDPR is, in general, a success, several areas need more attention. The Council highlights, in this 17page document, the
GERMANY’S DATA PROTECTION LAW While Germany is the EU Member State with the largest economy and the highest population in Europe, the working of its data protection law is the most complex to understand. Enforcement is split between the Federal level and the 16 separate Lander (state) Data Protection Authorities, and each Land has its own courts. EU AND SOUTH KOREA COMPLETE ADEQUACY TALKS The forthcoming adequacy finding will cover both private and public sector data controllers. The EU started its adequacy talks with South Korea in January 2017. Now, four years later, South Korea is closer than ever to receive the adequacy decision.
