AKC BREED GROUPS: HERDING GROUP The American Kennel Club categorizes their 190 breeds into 8 different groups. As part of our ongoing breed series (Getting to Know Your), we wanted to take a global look at these classifications and what characteristics separate the dogs into these different groups. The FATS IN A CAT'S DIET Fat in a cat's diet is essential. Just as with humans, fat provides energy or fuel and aids in the breakdown and absorption of certain fat-soluble vitamins such as Vitamin A, D, E & K. In addition, it provides a layer of insulation and protection for the internal organs. Good sources can be found in animal proteins (saturated fat) and vegetable oils (polyunsaturated fat). Some essential fatty ZINC: PET FOOD INGREDIENTS A TO Z We have reached the end of the alphabet in our “ingredients A to Z” series. Today’s letter is Z and our ingredient is Zinc. What is Zinc? Zinc is an essential trace mineral that is required in a pet’s diet to maintain good health. It is concentrated in certain parts of the brain, pancreas, and adrenal glands, as well as being present in the nucleus of all cells.
