THE LEARNING WALL
The Positive Engagement Project have assembled a set of common standards Concept Learning Bricks in English Language Arts for the upper elementary grades (3 – 5). Concept Learning Bricks are intended to introduce and lay the foundation for major English Language Arts standards and FACES - THE POSITIVE ENGAGEMENT PROJECT With that simple idea in mind, The Positive Engagement Project has launched FACES to assist those who have an innate passion to work with children and to make a difference in their lives. Fostering Active Child Engagement Strategies, or FACES, can be thought of as the following: Fostering: Encouraging. Active: Taking part in students’lives.
ENGAGEMENT STRATEGIES The Active Learning Cycle incorporates a simple cycle of cues to add to lessons that signal to the students when to learn with a partner (Turn and Learn) and when to give their attention back to the instructor (Return Q + A). Though these are simple concepts, they are sometimes the easiest parts of a lesson to skip. There are several variations of both pieces of the Active Learning Cycle with B7P CHARACTER EDUCATION B7P Character Education is filled with hundreds of Words of Wisdom quotes based on the seven Ps, rule cards, expectation cards, and character cards. Transform your classroom from a room of rules, to a world of expectations that can be carried out beyond the four walls of your room by your students. TEST REVIEW STRATEGIES Talking Points is a review game intended to stimulate student discussion and use of academic vocabulary, especially geared towards the Common Core State Standards. In addition, this is a perfect activity for ELL students, as it provides a fun and non threatening environment to talk. We have included three different downloads: Talking Points Manual, Talking Points word template, and Primary FIVE FINGER PHONICS IS A WAY TO TEACH LETTER SOUNDS IN A Five Finger Phonics is a method to teach letter sounds in a way that students can truly use as they begin to read. The gestures associated with the images in Five Finger Phonics fully involve the student’s eyes, ears, mouth and body as they learn phonemic awareness, the alphabet, and how to read, write, and spell. (CONCEPT, QUESTION, ANSWER, GESTURE, AND EXAMPLES) LISTED Examples: Use sets of items in the class or brought in the demonstrate looking for the median in the middle. For instance, use 7 pencils, line them up from shortest to longest and have students pick out the pencil in the middle. Repeat the same exercise using books, coloredcounting blocks,

Flash Fluency 10 - 10 - 10 High Tide Reading Game. The third level in our Flash Fluency 10-10-10 reading game, High Tide, jumps students up to 600 sight words and academic vocabulary throughout the ten Tests. This is the first time words are not repeated on the Tests. Each Test is comprised of 60 words for a total of 600 words in the level.MATHEMATICS
Acing Math (One Deck At A Time!) is a collection of math games ranging from Kindergarten to the upper elementary grades, using only an ordinary deck of playing cards. There are games covering addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percents, decimals, patterns, positive and negative integers, as well as many others. ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS Comprehension Shuffle allows kids to use their own awareness and know-how to create logical interpretations as they read whole group, small group, with a partner, or individually. The comprehension cards give the students a random comprehension skill to perform while reading. Since there are multiple comprehension skills and multiple cards of those skills, Comprehension Shuffle is a BE: PEACEFUL, POSITIVE, PATIENT, PROUD, PROACTIVE, PROMPT Here are some samples from a 5th grade class in San Jacinto, California: . Examples: Have your students create a Mr. Gallon to help them remember the capacities associated within a gallon (see picture).
