Pacific Women connects more than 170 gender equality initiatives supported by the Australian Government and implemented by over 160 partners across 14 Pacific Island countries. It is one of the largest global commitments to gender equality. The Support Unit of Pacific Women provides technical, knowledge-sharing and convening support to the portfolio of partners. Samoa is a Pacific Island Country that consists of four inhabited and five uninhabited islands. The Samoan economy is dominated by subsistence agricultural farming, with around 97 per cent of households engaged in agricultural activities. Women account for approximately seven per cent of this agricultural activity. TUVALU - PACIFIC WOMEN SHAPING PACIFIC DEVELOPMENT COUNTRY PAGE: Tuvalu. Tuvalu is a group of nine small islands and atolls in the western Pacific. The economy is constrained by its remoteness and lack of access to markets, and although independent it still relies heavily on aid from Australia, New Zealand, the European Union, Japan, Taiwan and the Republic of China. PROMOTING BODILY INTEGRITY AND RIGHTS FOR GIRLS Through a range of activities, the Talitha Project educates young women and girls on their fundamental human rights and reinforces the importance of protecting these rights. One activity is the My Body! My Rights! program, which worked with 36 young girls and representatives from key partner organisations between March 2016 and February 2017.
