FREE WOMEN'S SHORTS SEWING PATTERNS The Pajama Shorts from Melly Sews are another cute and easy project, drafted off a pair of boxer shorts. (Size small is free and you can resize yourself or purchase her pattern that goes up to 55 inch hips.) City Gym Shorts from Purl Soho are a little more refined than your typical boxer shorts but are great for lounging around the house. THE EASIEST HOMEMADE BREAD RECIPE EVER 4 cups flour. 1 3/4 tsp salt. a little bit of olive oil. The water should be lukewarm, so I use water from the fridge and heat it in the microwave for 45 seconds. Pour into mixing bowl and sprinkle yeast on top. Let stand for five minutes or so until the yeast is foamy and smells good. Add flour and salt. HOMEMADE PAINT POURING MEDIUM RECIPE The main recipe part of making your own paint pouring medium is to start with half glue and half water. Even though I say above that didn’t work great, it will work better if: 1. you measure it and 2. you add some other things. 30 DAY ART CHALLENGE IDEAS FOR KIDS AND ADULTS Easy 30 Day Art Challenge Ideas. Draw or write with your non-dominant hand. With a partner, each of you draw the same thing. Or draw something you see. HOW TO BUILD THE BEST TRAVEL KNITTING KIT WHAT TO DO WITH LEFTOVER YARN ENDS My friend Melissa suggests using short lengths of yarn in a suet bird feeder for birds to find when they are building their nests. HOW TO SUBSTITUTE YARN FOR A KNITTING PROJECT I recently wrote a post about what I think about when choosing yarn for a knitting project, which is about how to substitute yarn in a general way.. But there’s been a lot of talk in the knitting community the past few days about offering more yarn options in knitting patterns and whether it is the designer’s job to do so. EASY OUTDOOR HARRY POTTER BIRTHDAY PARTY Because it was a Harry Potter birthday party we had a lot of options, but we kept it pretty simple. Platform 9 3/4: the entrance to the party was through our backyard gate, so the girl drew a 9 3/4 symbol so kids could walk through the “wall” to begin their journey. We also rigged up a wireless speaker to play train noises (thanks, husband!).
THE BEST CALMING CRAFTS FOR KIDS Years ago I did an epic playdough recipe throwdown and this is the recipe that came out on top. You can easily halve it and it still makes a lot. We use food coloring to color it most of the time because we don’t usually have Kool-Aid in the house unless it’s just formaking dough.
EASY ALMOND-VANILLA MELT AND POUR SOAP RECIPE Almond-Vanilla Melt and Pour Soap Recipe. Melt about 7 ounces of glycerine soap base in a heat-safe bowl in the microwave. Do this by setting it for 30-second intervals and stirring between until all is melted. Add 1 teaspoon almond oil, 6 drops or so of vanilla and 4 drops of soap dye. Stir well. HOW TO KNIT BRIOCHE STITCH Work the pattern row: *yf sl1 yo, brk. Repeat from * across. Continue to work the pattern row until the piece is an inch or two (2.5-5cm) shorter than the head you’d like to wrap it around. About 22 inches/59 cm is good for an adult head. Bind off loosely and leave a long tail for sewing. Stitch the cast on and bind of edges together. EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WORKING WITH LOOP YARN To “bind off,” you start at the side of the work opposite from the working yarn. Loop the first loop through the second loop and so on across. Then just clip the thread holding the next couple of loops together so you have a straight piece of yarn and can weave in the end. Check out all the details on how to work with loop yarn in myvideo:
HOW TO HOST A SUPER SIMPLE DAISY BRIDGING CEREMONY To make the flower, put the center down on the floor and the petals around it (light blue at the top, followed by yellow, light green, red, orange, dark purple, hot pink, dark green, baby pink, light purple clockwise around). Use a folded up rectangular green plastic tablecloth (mine is from the dollar store) as the stem. HOW TO MAKE LEMONGRASS STOCK, AKA WHAT I WANT TO DRINK ALL Add oil to a stock pot on medium heat. Add vegetables and cook, stirring regularly, until the onions start to get a little translucent, or about 10 minutes. Add peppercorns, coriander and salt, and add water. Bring to a boil, turn down to low, cover and cook about an hour. I usually turn off the heat and let it sit with thevegetables in the
