These parameters specify the size of the memory area that buffers the data, as it says "buffer related". Since the database handles a lot of disk I / O, it is very important for performance to use the buffer mechanism well. DATABASE CREATION IN EASY 6 STEPS Wonted thingie.. MONDAY, 21 OCTOBER 2019 POSTGRES DROP TABLE : ERROR: MUST BE OWNER OF RELATION TABLE_NAME In Postgres, The right to drop an object is not treated with any grantable privilege. It is only achived by the ownership. So, let say I have an object named article_post, created by user“user2”
User2 tried to grant privilege but it won’t allow the another userto drop his object.
nexprd=> create table article_post(article_name varchar(20));CREATE TABLE
nexprd=> grant delete on article_post to nikhil ; <-----GRANT
nexprd=> grant all privileges on article_post to nikhil ; <-----GRANT
nexprd=> select current_user;current_user
--------------
nikhil
(1 row)
nexprd=> drop table article_post ; ERROR: must be owner of relation article_post <----- Not allowing to drop nexprd=> drop table article_post ; ERROR: must be owner of relation article_post The error tells that, I don't own the table (or relation) I’mtrying to modify.
So, the user ‘Nikhil’ wasn't a direct/indirect member of the newowning role...
nexprd=> \d
List of relations
Schema | Name | Type | Owner --------+---------------------+----------+----------- public | account | table | postgres public | account_user_id_seq | sequence | postgres public | article | table | postgres public | article_post | table | user2 <<===== public | articles | table | john public | k1 | table | postgres public | persons | table | postgres public | persons_id_seq | sequence | postgres public | test_id_seq | sequence | postgres(9 rows)
So the solution was quite simple - I've just done this grant: nexprd=> grant user2 to nikhil ;GRANT ROLE
Note: You cannot grant object ownership as : nexprd=> grant article_post to nikhil ; ERROR: role "article_post" does not exist nexprd=> drop table article_post ;DROP TABLE
nexprd=>
Same can be achieved using PgAdmin. Login to PgAdmin as user >> Right click on username, Click on'Properties'
A diglog box will be opened in console, Click on membership tab, and select the owner of object. Now, usergroup 'Nikhil' will be able to drop the object.at 01:38:00

THURSDAY, 29 AUGUST 2019 CREATING A DATABASE ON POSTGRESQL SERVER 1. Login to PostgreSQL server$ su - postgres

Be sure to always end your SQL statements with ; semicolon postgres=# create user admin1postgres=# ;
CREATE ROLE
Create the database using basic parameters postgres=# create database nexaprod postgres-# with encoding='UTF8' postgres-# owner=admin1 postgres-# connection limit=20 ;CREATE DATABASE
Listing the databases available on serverpostgres=#

List of databases
Name | Owner | Encoding | Collation | Ctype | Access privileges -----------+----------+----------+-------------+-------------+----------------------- nexaprod | admin1 | UTF8 | en_US.UTF-8 | en_US.UTF-8 | postgres | postgres | UTF8 | en_US.UTF-8 | en_US.UTF-8 | template0 | postgres | UTF8 | en_US.UTF-8 | en_US.UTF-8 | =c/postgres : postgres=CTc/postgres template1 | postgres | UTF8 | en_US.UTF-8 | en_US.UTF-8 | =c/postgres : postgres=CTc/postgres(4 rows)
1. Apart from CREATE DATABSE command, you can also use CREATEDB program to create new databases. Both commands are one and the same. CREATEDB is a command line utility which you run from BASH and notfrom psql.
2. Besides CREATE USER command on DB server, you can use bash command as below and maintain the privileges -bash-4.1$ /usr/bin/createuser admin2 Shall the new role be a superuser? (y/n) n Shall the new role be allowed to create databases? (y/n) y Shall the new role be allowed to create more new roles? (y/n) n-bash-4.1$
OR
-bash-4.1$ /usr/bin/createuser nikhil Shall the new role be a superuser? (y/n) y 3. The standard create database statement is as below (in case, if you are willing to use your own template) CREATE DATABASE nexaprodOWNER = role_name
TEMPLATE=your_template ENCODING= LC_COLLATE=<> LC_TYPE=<> TABLESPACE= <> CONNECTION LIMIT= max_connection Role_name : is the name of user which will own the database, make sure the user exist on DB server Template : Postgres allows you to create database based ontemplate database
Default is template1 Encoding : is the character set of the database 4. Below is the simplest way to create the database which will use all default settings of “default template DB – that isTEMPLATE1.
$ create database nexaprod ;at 22:58:00

INSTALLATING POSTGRESQL SERVER ON CENTOS, RHEL 6 / 7 SYSTEMS This article will help you for installing PostgreSQL on CentOS, RHEL6 / 7 Systems
ADDING POSTGRESQL YUM REPOSITORY OF OS The first step is to install PostgreSQL repository in your system : Ø CentOS/RHEL 7 // rpm -Uvh http://yum.postgresql.org/9.6/redhat/rhel-7-x86_64/pgdg-redhat96-9.6-3.noarch.rpm Ø CentOS/RHEL 6rpm -Uvh http://yum.postgresql.org/9.6/redhat/rhel-6-x86_64/pgdg-redhat96-9.6-3.noarch.rpm INSTALLING POSTGRESQL SERVER AFTER ENABLING POSTGRESQL YUM REPOSITORY IN YOUR SYSTEM USE FOLLOWING COMMAND TO INSTALL POSTGRESQL 9.6 ON YOUR SYSTEM WITH YUM PACKAGEMANAGER.
$ YUM INSTALL POSTGRESQL96-SERVER POSTGRESQL96 INITIALIZE THE PGDATA After installing PostgreSQL server, It’s required to initialize it before using the first time. _WHY ? _ All the data needed for a database cluster is stored within the cluster's data directory, commonly referred to as PGDATA Do not run the _INITDB_ program while logged in as the root user! The command may fail with below error message. The cluster needs to be created and owned by whichever normal user is going to become the new cluster's database superuser.# su – postgres
And then initialize the DB /usr/pgsql-9.6/bin/postgresql96-setup initdb Above command will take some time to initialize PostgreSQL firsttime.
STARTING THE POSTGRESQL SERVER Once the installation succeeded , you will see status as below. Use the following command to start PostgreSQL services Verify the Installation This verifies you have installed PostgreSQL 9.6 on your server. we see the background processes such as logger process, checkpointer process and stats collector process. What is _initdb ? _ _INITDB _is used to initialize a new data directory for a database cluster, and instruct postmaster to start up using that data cluster instead of the default - _INITDB __is also used _ to correct a corrupted template1 database by executing _INITB_ with the -t (or - -template ) parameter. This will re-generate the TEMPLATE1 database from scratch.-
-
Usage :
_The directory that you wish to initialize a new database cluster within. If you do not specify a directory name, the command will look at the PGDATA environment variable.__
