Meccano Made in England, a very common marking. After the Second World War, the emphasis was on export sales to provide much-needed foreign currency. The stamping changed to "Meccano Made in England", which identifies post-war parts easily. This stamping carried on right through to the end of the Silver/yellow/black era. The nickel period (1908 to 1925) In 1908, things were really getting off the ground. The word "Meccano" had been registered in 1907, and in June 1908 Meccano Limited was set up and purchased all of the previouscompany.

Hypothesis. Obviously, prior to 1916, Meccano would have used the pre-Watts system of nickel-plating. This entailed risk of the plating peeling off the metal, and to prevent this the aim is to obtain as thin a plating as possible. This very thin plating tends to be quitebright and shiny.
