INTERVIEW: INVESTING INTO THE UNKNOWN WITH LAWRENCE YEO Welcome to this edition of the Mindful Makers interview series, where we go behind the scenes with prolific creators and explore what makes them creative and productive.I’m incredibly excited to chat with Lawrence Yeo, the writer and illustrator of More To That, a blog that delves into what makes humanity so fascinating.. I first discovered Lawrence through his illustrated article The FRAMING EFFECT: HOW THE WAY INFORMATION IS FRAMED IMPACTS As you can see, both options would actually result in the same number of hypothetical patients who would live or die, but Tversky and Kahneman did not simply explain the two treatments as described above: they presented each option either with a positive framing (how many people would live) or a negative framing (how many people would die). It’s not for everyone, but if you like to think about the nature of reality and the meaning of life, you will have an amazing time. ROAM RESEARCH FREE, OPEN SOURCE, AND SELF-HOSTED ALTERNATIVES Other free, open-source and self-hosted alternatives include Zim, Freeplane, Trillium, and Wikidpad, but they all lack many of the core features of Roam, and tend to be either too close to mind maps or too hierarchical. I haven’t tried any of them. If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty, there are a few projects on Github. HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT NOTE-TAKING APP The note-taking tools market is projected to reach $1.35B by 2026. The good thing is: there is a note-taking app for everyone. The not-so-great thing: with a new note-taking app popping up every single week, it can be hard to decide which one is the best for your usecase.
THE ART AND SCIENCE OF MIND WANDERING The neuroscience of mind wandering. Mind wandering neuroscience research seeks to understand how the brain generates the relatively unconstrained—almost spontaneous—thoughts that are experienced by people when their mind wanders.
