NCBB STATEMENT ON UPDATED FDA GUIDANCE ADDRESSING URGENT UPDATE:As of June 15, 2020, Nebraska Community Blood Bank has revised our eligibility criteria according to the new guidelines issued by the FDA on April 2, 2020. The FDA’s actions will allow for the re-entry of thousands of individuals to the donor pool who were previously deferred. We are pleased that the FDA has recognized the need for blood during the COVID-19 pandemic and reviewed someANTIBODY TESTING
This is a test to determine whether a donor has been exposed to the virus in the past. With funding from the federal Operation Warp Speed initiative, Nebraska Community Blood Bank—along with other select blood centers in the nation—will be testing all blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies from December 14, 2020 through February 28, 2021. 4 EASY STEPS TO DONATION The donation process takes 8-14 minutes for whole blood donors. A needle is inserted (you will feel a slight sting) and blood is drawn while you sit back and relax. Congratulations! Celebrate with cookies and juice. It’s time to reward yourself with cookies and juice. After a few minutes you’ll be ready to resume your daily activities. THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19 The fight against COVID-19. Nebraska Community Blood Bank's COVID-19 convalescent plasma program has ended, as of 3/17/21. The great response from donors to give convalescent plasma helped build the national supply and meet hospital needs.
