President Gerald Ford signed the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (Public Law 94-142), into law in 1975. An amendment was responsible for the change in the name of the law to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), in 1990. According to the US Department of Education, music therapy is recognized as a related service under the IDEA.
