COLLECTION | MUSEUM FÜR NATURKUNDE With over 30 million objects, the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin houses the largest natural history collection in Germany. It is the museum's core infrastructure. The collection comprises objects from the time of the origin of the solar system more than 4.5 billion years ago until today and contains a large number of first descriptions of species(type specimens).

In December 2015 Tristan Otto came to Europe and to the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin as the first original T. rex skeleton. Since then, the superstar among the dinosaurs has impressed around three million visitors from Berlin and the world about research and nature. Nevertheless, at the beginning of 2020, it was time for the Berliners to say goodbye - at least temporarily. MICROFOSSILS MADE VISIBLE They are barely visible to the naked eye and yet surround us at every step: microfossils. The drawings by Christian Gottfried Ehrenberg now published in the data portal of the Museum of Natural History invite us to explore a fascinating world that is otherwise only visible under the microscope. Tristan Otto is the only original skeleton of a T. rex in Europe to date. The twelve- metre-long and four-metre-high deep black skeleton of the predatory dinosaur from the Upper Cretaceous period was found in 2010 in the Hell Creek Formation in Montana, USA. It is among the best-preserved Tyrannosaurus rex specimens worldwide. SCAN OF DINOSAUR BONES Scan of dinosaur bones. The 3D scanning system CultLab3D of Fraunhofer IGD will be tested at the Museum of Natural History in Berlin next week. In its special exhibition Spinosaurus, the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin displays the first scientifically accurate and full-size skeleton ever assembled of this gigantic, approximately 100-million-year-old predatory dinosaur from the Cretaceous period. The tours can be booked during opening hours – some selected tours are also available after hours. Please note the information on booking conditions. Tristan Otto is the only original skeleton of a T. rex in Europe to date. The twelve- metre-long and four-metre-high deep black skeleton of the predatory dinosaur from the Upper Cretaceous period was found in 2010 in the Hell Creek Formation in Montana, USA.
