Our approach at CMC is two-fold. We use motivational techniques to help clients weigh the costs and benefits of change and cognitive-behavioral techniques to help clients develop the concrete skills and strategies they need to change. We think of these two important aspects of our approach as the “Decision” and the“Tools.”.

PRACTICING SELF-COMPASSION Self-compassion involves noticing your suffering (e.g., becoming aware of shame, sadness, stress, anger, etc.) and practicing self-kindness during these painful moments. By practicing self-compassion when experiencing suffering, you can learn to be with it and care for yourself instead of potentially causing yourself even more suffering.
