FAMOUS GAIL CHRISTIAN DRENCh You can substitute the drench in place of water, if not feeding wet, just drench them with it. 10oz a feeding, 3 to 4 time a day.Ingredients
30 eggs,
one 12 oz. can of condensed milk 24 oz. of water (use the milk can)4 oz. honey
4 oz. mazzola corn oil 4 oz. decaf. chocolate flavored Ovaltine (if you are subject to drug test, be sure it is decaf. because of the caffeine) if you can’t find decaf then use vanilla or strawberry flavor they will work fine. Mix with blender, or mixer, hand ladle into storage containers. This will make about one gallon because of the raw egg, store in refigerator or ice chest with ice at the shows Start about two weeks before show by giving them 10 oz. 2-3 timesdaily.
If you feed wet feed, then simply pour 10 oz. twice per day over theirgrain ration.
If they are under finished are really stale, you can feed 10 oz. 3-5times day (24hrs.).
It will really bring back their top over the rack and loin. Lambs that have a gut, I would recommend cutting their grain ration in half about week before show. Then give them 10 oz. of the egg recipe 3-5 times per day. In most cases they will lose their gut and their tops will handle fresh. Some lambs or goats may scour…if that happens…just back off on the amount of drench fed and give 36 cc of Pepto Bismol (12 cc syringe 3 times) they will dry up real quick. Some may bloat, again back off on the amount fed, dissolve 3-4 Alkaseltzer tablets in warm water, about 2 ounces, drench, they will be down in a matter of minutes. This drench has been used successfully for about 25 years. ———————————————————— ELECTROLYTE REPLACEMENT DRINK Electrolyte drink like a store bought Gatorade, Power-ade, etc. 1 quart boiled water 2 tbsp. honey or 10 tsp sugar (I try to use brown) 1/4 tsp. of salt or a ¼ tsp. of Calcium Chloride (and no salt) 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1/2 package of Kool-aid for color and flavor (your choice) Can be kept in refrigerator for 24 hours, and then a new batch should be made. We freeze all of our drenches and defrost and use as needed. They all travel and keep better if we are going to be gone for days tojackpots etc.

MASSEY DRENCH
I think this from JB Massey. I haven’t used it, so can’t say howwell it works.
Drench Recipe
Stir together:
• ½ gallon water
• 2 8oz Blue Ribbon Electrolyte • 2 bottles (1000ml) concentrate Amino Acid • 2 drench guns full (120 ccs) Propyline Glycol• 120 ccs Dyne
• 8 oz NRG plus
Give 120 ccs 2 times daily for 7 days. Can give up to 3-4 times perday.
Keep refrigerated. Will be pinkish in color ———————————————————– GETTING LAMB TO EAT WHEN THEIR OFF FEED Mix 4 ounces buttermilk with about 4 ounces yogurt. Drench with 2 ounces twice a day. Take grain away completely, and feed hay in small amounts several times a day along with the drench, to get the stomach back on track. Gradually add grain back, 1 cup or ¼ lb a feeding the 1st day (if you have the time to feed small amounts every 3-4 hrs} You need to find the cause of this lamb being off feed..how ever, 10 oz. 3 times per day of the egg shake will also help hold him together, you can drench him with it. ———————————————————–SUPPLEMENTS
Just a bit of advice, before spending all the money on supplements, look at what your lambs are lacking or what they’ve lacked in the past, and then make your decision on what you need to buy. Supplements you buy or make your self can’t work miracles. It’s just like a daily vitamin that also helps keep them fresh and healthy. A healthy lamb is all you can ask for. Don’t feed top dress supplements until they start getting some finish usually at 100 lbs, and no earlier than 60 days before fair. I would use the shakes and drenches 10 to 14 days before fair. I also use the drench in place of wet feeding, since most fairs have rules about drenching. Jackpots it doesn’t seem to matter that much. I use the drench 5 days before hauling and during the haul to and from a jackpot it helps the stress level. ———————————————————–RICE BROTH
Have you heard people talk about rice broth and What is it? And whatdoes it do?
Rice broth is full of mineral & vitamins. It keeps them feelinggreat/strong.
I have noticed a big difference since I’ve started the rice broth. In the past I have used egg drench mixture, this helps keep their tops on, but without as many ingredients. Make Rice Broth yourself. Take 3 quarts of water bring to a rolling boil. Add 1 cup of rice (I use brown) boil for 4-5 minutes Add one cup of Sugar (you can use brown) Drain the water and catch the water to use for lambs. Throw away the rice (do not use) Keep the rice broth cold in the icebox it spoils in a few days. ———————————————————–HIDE CONDITIONER
Buy a bottle of cheap hair conditioner pour 1/2 bottle in sauce pan, turn burner on low and add 1 bottle of wintergreen or plain alcohol , the mix will be cloudy and thick , heat slow and stir, DO NOT BOIL, when the mix is clear let cool and pour in spray bottle. Shake up before each use spray the lamb and wipe with clean before entering the show ring. This is very similar to products sold to keep your lambs feeling fresh for the show ring.Advertisements

KID GOAT HUT SHELTER April 29, 2014April 30, 2014/ jarodmorrison

Our farm saw its first kidding this week! May I introduce you to Elsa, or Abby (depending on which grandchild you are talking to). Of course, right after her birth, the temperature started dropping and it got rainy. In fact, tonight we’re expecting a late freeze. We were a little worried about keeping the little girl warm so we decided to build her a warming hut. This is something I saw at Pickering goat farm here in Northwest Arkansas. I visited there a few weeks ago to preview some show goats before their auction. This warming hut is very easy and cheap to build. All you need to do is take an old plastic tub and cut a hole out of the side for a door and a hole in top for a light. It took maybe 10 minutes to make. We tied the light cord up in the rafters of the barn just in case something happened, the light would stay off the bedding. We also attached the light to the box with some duct tape. We just used a 50 watt bulb and it was plenty warm in there. If you have a bigger box or maybe a 55 gallon drum cut in half you might want a stronger bulb. We used what we had on hand, but any plastic tub/drum will work, really you could even make a box out of plywood if you had some extra lyingaround.
We cut out the holes and sat it down. Then we went inside to get the light. When we came back the little girl had already crawled inside! CURRENT FARM PROJECTS April 25, 2014April 25, 2014/ jarodmorrison
