MY DEVIOUS, QUESTIONABLE PROJECTS: ABOUT THROUGH HARD My first game. Awful both in writing and coding. Seriously, looking back at it now, it's embarassing. That's something close to what I had in mind. The tag over there is also a very weird and roundabout spoiler for one of the characters in the new quest I am working on right now, although I changed the quest a little over the time, and the tag is now slightly less significant. MONDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2019 NO HOTFIX NEEDED? WHAT SORCERY IS THIS? coding for the "split" between the sub ending or one where she gets her freedom. I also added some variations to the previous scene, so that this split is reflected early on (even if it doesn't radicallychange the scene).
I also worked on some minor adjustments for the two battles you can go through in chapter 5, and some other miscellaneous stuff. I realized thanks to a report that I had completely forgotten to add one of Alec's scenes, so I'll have to get to it soon, probably this week. Other than that, the plans for the following days should be pretty easy: I want to finish chapter 5 properly, finish Lea's path (that's why I worked on a new scene for her), finish the dryad content (I think I'll just write another scene and a short epilogue for the TF, since that's a "bad end"), and then I'll see how much I can add to the ponygirl path (possibly I should finish it). Once I wrap these up, I'll decide what's next on the table, but for now, this should keep me busy for a while. MONDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2019 ALMOST THERE (BUT NOT QUITE YET) So, I just finished the quest content (minus the last bit which I might not add until I work on the last chapter, since this introduces it and that will be the "no turning back" point before the end). I am uploading the test version for my testers as I write this. Some parts of the quest were more taxing than expected (the fork proved to be some extra work to make it different enough, gameplay wise), but I think I managed to put together a good quest! Now it's going to be a few days of waiting, bugfixing and polishing, before the public release. Sorry for the extra time it took, but hopefully it's interesting enough to make up for it. ^_^ Not much else to say, other than telling you guys to look forward to it. I didn't want to release this without testing, since there are some complicated parts, and I want to guarantee a degree of bug removal before you get to try it. I might try to write a few sexy scenes in the meantime, but honestly I feel a bit tired, so maybe I'll rest until the stream of bug reports forces me back in action. Labels: Status update MONDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2019 A FISTFUL OF PUZZLES Did I use this title before? Oh well, it doesn't matter. I have been working on a few puzzles (they should be all that is needed in the "normal" path), I have almost finished with the map for the location (I need a few more details in one of the floors and then it's just NPC placement that is left to do). I have prepared a couple of combat encounters for this, and now I am trying to see if I can add a way to skip the first fight (I already have an idea for it, I just have to think how I can give a hint without being too obvious). I need to write some cutscenes still, but I think most of the work has been done. There are a few things that should come into play, so I'll have to tackle a few variations and paths, but it shouldn't be an unreasonable task. I figure I should aim for the 21st as the release date, so that I am not rushed. I did do some other miscellaneous work but that's for the last chapter (the usual boring stuff like finding/selecting sprites and tilesets). I also fixed a couple of bugs, so that's alwaysgood.
I guess I should still hurry a little, so that I can give the testers a version to try with enough spare time to make fixes and adjustments, but that's really the only pressing concern at the moment. I was worried, because I got stuck on one particular puzzle for a while, but I think the progress was still fairly good, all in all. Anyway, that's it for the week, so I won't keep you any longer. Havefun! ^_^

Labels: Status update MONDAY, OCTOBER 07, 2019 A SLEEPY VILLAGE... OR IS IT? I am still toiling away at the main quest. I am pretty happy with the map for the new town (where this part of the quest will take place). It's small, but it plays well with the mechanic I have in mind (it needed a bit of a maze-like structure to work, and I feel like I achieved it without making it disorienting). There is also some more traditional gameplay past the first section, with some "platforming" and some spells thrown in. The interiors are coming well together too, and so are the basic NPCs. This one above is a pic from within the editor, so you can see invisible events as well, plus some details are still subject to change. I think this map is ideal for hiding secrets, so I should try my best to add a few here and there. ^_^ Most of the action will take place indoor for the quest, however, and I can't show you that one yet (plus, I think that would be spoiler-y, most likely). I have yet to decide how many buildings I want you to be able to visit. Maybe I'll keep this release strictly main-quest related, and add some side content and more NPCs to talk with lateron.
I am unsure if I'll be able to complete this section in its entirety for the release, but I'll do my best. The main issue is that there is a fork here based on your previous behaviour, so I need to take some extra steps when designing the whole thing. Speaking of release, I think I'll be aiming for a release on the 18th-20th of the month, but I'll keep it flexible to try and finish things up. Anyway, not much else to report. I already anticipated the focus of the update in the previous posts, saying more would ruin the surprise. I think this should feel like a small temple, in a sense, once I am done with all the details. I'll probably need to ask my testers with some help to better polish some of the ideas, but I am in a good spotoverall.

Labels: Status update MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2019SETTING THE STAGE
So, as I mentioned, I wrote a new scene with Alec, wrote the usual transition for the new chapter, and advanced uncle's search. We get a scene with professor Kendar, that gives you some solid lead on where to go. This last scene also includes a bit about a plot twist revolving around the emperor as you get some surprising news duringit.
I am actually debating if I should keep this part out of the game for the moment, however, and wait until I can focus more on it, since it's a bit complicated, and I feel like it would be better served with an extra quest before it, so that I can foreshadow more things, and better introduce some facts and NPCs. I also created a new map, which I guess I could use in this hypothetical quest (it's a nice part of the tileset, and I feel it would be a waste if I didn't use it). I think next I should create the town where you need to go for your uncle's quest. Originally, I wanted to have it be the coastal town you can see north of Rahib, but now I am wondering if I should move it on an island, and perhaps giving some importance to procuring a ship. I feel like I really neglected vehicles in both the gameplay and the world map design so far, but maybe that's not a good reason to change an old plan I had for a while. Anyway, I have a few interesting ideas for this part of the game, so I hope people will like the various forks in the story, the mechanics and the characters they'll get to see. ^_^ Other than this, I don't think there is much else to say (or at least, nothing that wouldn't force me to go into details, and spoil parts of the game). So, after dealing with some bugs (as you might have noticed, I did release one small update), I am back on track, working on the main quest. Specifically, I am adding the beginning of chapter 5 (and the end of chapter 4). I am trying to find the best way to introduce all the elements I'd like. There should be a lot going on, but as far as the main quest goes, the points I want to touch in the 5th chapterare:
Meeting Alec (the shapeshifter you meet at the end of the third temple) again, and having a chance to meet his master as well; Talking to your father about what you discovered in the last temple; Move to the next step of your research into what happened with youruncle;
Having the potential bad consequence of always relying on Alphariusplay out;
Getting one last big reveal in preparation for the last chapter; Since a lot of this is going to be important for the plot, I can't share too many details, unfortunately. I can tell you that I wrote the usual scene for a chapter transition, and I wrote almost all of the first scene with Alec. I think I'll have him show up at your house, for a visit (and he'll try to get in your panties a second time). He'll also offer some honest advice. I am considering whether I want him to get involved in your efforts to find your uncle. On one hand, he is obviously big on "improving Shapeshifters' relationships" and he isn't too much of a bad guy (once you get to know him), but on the other hand, even if I'd like to involve NPCs a bit more, it might be late at this stage of development (I partially regret not giving the players a party, or at least, someone that would travel with you, if not fight with you). Still, it's something to think about. As for the art commissions that won the polls, expect to see them the release after the next one. Some of the commissions had already started being made back when the poll wasn't finished yet, so I figured I'd move everything to the following month, so I can be more flexible with how I allocate the "waifu quotas". Not that we don't have more art as usual this month, but I hope nobody is upset with the delay. I might make another art poll, so I can keep the train rolling (especially since I'll be working on the main quest, so there aren't too many decisions for you to vote on). Speaking of art, I wonder if I'll have to scale things back to 4 commissions per month. It seems like we have been missing the 2500$ goal for a few months already. It's not like I am running out of money, or anything like that (things are still going incredibly well, thanks to everyone ^_^), but I feel like I should keep my budget allocated as planned.
