Malteser International has been working with Malteser Peru (MAPE) since 2007. Tumalu is 25 years old, and comes from Yei, South Sudan. Just over a year ago, she fled the civil war in her country when armed fighters came to her village. The blaze destroyed thousands of shelters inside the world’s largest refugee settlement, displacing 45,000 people and injuring over 500. The World Health Organization (WHO) launched the WHO EMT initiative in 2016 to improve the timeliness and effectiveness of health services provided in the immediate aftermath of a sudden-onset emergency or REDUCE MATERNAL MORTALITY 12.243. (473 of 100.000 births) max. 70 of 100.000 births. Birth mortality rates vary considerably worldwide. The United Nations' Agenda 2030 aims to drastically reduce maternal and neonatal mortality. DR KONGO: EBOLA BLEIBT, CORONA-PANDEMIE AUF DEM VORMARSCH Nur zwei Tage bevor die Weltgesundheitsorganisation das Ende der Ebola-Epidemie in der DR Kongo verkünden wollte, wurde ein neuer Fall in der Stadt Beni gemeldet. In den vergangenen Jahren starben bereits 2.264 Menschen an dem gefährlichen Ebola-Virus, ca. zwei Drittel aller Infizierten. Gleichzeitig breitet sich das Coronavirus auch in der DR Kongo immer weiter aus. Bis heute sind 223 Infizierte gemeldetworden.

SYRIEN: NEUERFINDUNG VON MENSCHLICHKEIT STATT KRIEGSBILANZEN Zum 9. Jahrestag des Beginns des Syrienkonflikts fordert Malteser International einen Perspektivwechsel. „Die niederschmetternde Bilanz nach neun Jahren Krieg sind Hundertausende Tote, eine unvorstellbare Zunahme extremer Armut und die Zerrüttung des gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalts. Hier muss die Menschlichkeit neu erfunden werden“, sagt Janine Lietmeyer, Leiterin des Regionalbereichs Nahost bei Malteser International. „Das Ende des Krieges, die Rückkehr in ihre Heimat und die Chance auf ein normales Leben – das wünschen sich die Menschen in ganz Syrien.“Weiterlesen
