Video Guide. Located in the Kisatchie Hills Wilderness just north of Alexandria, Louisiana, the Backbone Trail is the best backpacking experience in Louisiana. With plenty of primitive campsites and several spur trails to explore, you could make a great weekend trip out of this trail. The main trail is 7.7-miles one-way.BACKPACKING TRAILS

Clark Creek Natural Area. The Clark Creek Natural Area is located in southwestern Mississippi, near Woodville. Comprising more than 700 acres, it is highlighted by some 50 waterfalls, ranging in size from 10 to more than 30 feet in height. Video Guide. The Tunica Hills Wildlife Management Area is one of the most unique and challenging hikes you can find in Louisiana. Located just north of St Francisville, this area is full of steep ravines, sandy bayous, and lots of interesting wildlife. Arguably the most scenic hike in Louisiana, the 1.2 mile Longleaf Vista Trail Nature Trail is located in the Kisatchie National Forest, just NW of Alexandria. The trailhead is at the Longleaf Vista Recreation Area and is suitable for most hikers, including kids. It is a fairly easy hike with a few ups and downs through mostly pineforest.

There are a 2.5-mile levee walk and a 2.5-mile road walk, that is supposed to create a 5-mile loop trail around Lake Martin. Red River National Wildlife Refuge is made up of four units in the Red River Valley in northwestern Louisiana. The 1.5 mile Sugar Mill Nature Trail is a loop that has a nice boardwalk overlooking the marsh. The 4.8 mile Bayou Cane Trail is an out and back that leads to Bayou Cane.*

Combine four popular hiking trails into one 52 mile trip and you get the Wild Kincaid Route. 1. Wild Azalea Trail 2. Lakeshore Trail 3. Kincaid Loop Trail 4. Valentine Lake Trail Ok, technically it's five trails since I use the Lamotte Creek Trail as a connector but there is an alternate route where this trail is not used. This trip was so much fun and I hope to see more people doingit!
