Mike Griffin

We had a wonderful time at LEI. The snorkeling experience was outstanding with the healthy coral reef and its valleys of colour & quantity of marine life just magical. Special thanks to the staff who were cheerful & incredibly friendly. Simmo, in particular and Erin went out of their way to assist. It’s a place we highly recommend to all travellers. You would be amazed by the environmental transformation from the 60’s to now!Charlie Cabrera

Being able to swim with turtles and manta rays - awesome. Equipment supplied for snorkelling was in top condition. Lunchtime buffet was a good spread. Only downside is inefficient layout of the buildings - having to go between different ones to collect equipment, towels, go to lockers and changing rooms felt a waste of time - particularly on a day trip. Can't speak for the quality of the accommodation as, unfortunately, there was no availability when we went, so book early!Jay D

Thank you for providing vegan options. It was incredibly delicious and filling. Please do more of this as it looked way more appetising than the meat options and most omnis were taking lots of the vegan options anyway! Plus it’s better for the environment and animals, which is particularly relevant given this is an eco resort. Also, we stayed in a glamping tent which was lovely but please warn people that even light winds can make it very noise against the flapping tent walls and even with ear plugs it was difficult to sleep. It would also have been nice to be able to get 5mm full length wetsuits for snorkelling as the water was very cold but even though we had to pay extra to hire them, the dive shop only provided shorties for snorkelers which didn’t help much. Thanks again for a great stay.Ire Ne

Snorkelling heaven! Saw rays, turtles, whales, harmless reef sharks, blue star fish, schools of vibrant and large fish, plenty of sea cucumbers and clams, corals, all in safe waters just straight off the island into the reef. Amazing! The most wonderful thing was the constant whale song when your ears are below the water’s surface. Included in the package is the exciting flight over (from Bundaberg, Hervey Bay or Redcliffe), reasonable accommodation, snorkelling gear and reef shoes, and glass bottom boat trip. Do the glass bottom boat as soon as you arrive and book into the sunset cruise ASAP too. Our sunset cruise luckily became a whale watching cruise instead.Caften Hendry

There is something adventurous about being in a 12-seater propeller plane that makes the trip to and from the tiny coral cay feel much more remote than 80km off the Queensland coast. The trip across, in fine weather, provides fine views of Hervey Bay (we went via Bundaberg and got to see the coast between the two towns) and of the island. The landing on the grass airstrip was thrilling but uneventful.Staff greeted guests at the landing strip and took charge of day visitors and those staying overnight and showed us where all the key facilities were and where to find details of daily activities. Our bags were taken to our room and were there by the time we'd checked in.The Reef room was basic and comfortable. The bathroom had contemporary fittings that includes a good shower. The queen bed was a little bouncy but comfortable. There was a ceiling fan but no air-con. A kettle, 2 mugs, 2 wine glasses and 2 tumblers are provided plus a small fridge. As well as in-room tea and coffee there is free tea and coffee in the dining room. The front porch had chairs and a stool that doubled as a table. Lines with pegs are ready for wet swimmers. As well as the buffet breakfast, some mornings there is an omelette station in the area next to the dining room. We went on a glass bottom boat tour that included half an hour of snorkeling time. Having a guide on hand was helpful before going it alone. The water was choppy on the southern end of the western reef both times we went snorkeling there but that was where we saw a turtle and other guests reported manta ray sightings. The sea conditions varied a lot throughout the day and the water was much flatter in the afternoon the three days we were there. The corals are magnificent and there were lots of fish.On land there are various guided walks and talks. The behind the scenes tour was a highlight thanks to Chris whose knowledge and warm manner made for an entertaining glimpse at the technology that underlies the smooth operation of the resort. The guided reef walk was informative. The survival tour was a lot of fun and a good introduction to some of the island's desirable plants (there are a number of introduced species they are working to eradicate). The buffet breakfast and dinner, which is included in the room rate was very good and included lots of fresh ingredients, which are flown in daily. The lunch menu (which is not included) has all the staples (burgers, fish and chips, toasted sandwiches and three salads (Greek, Caesar and pumpkin). There are always vegetarian and gluten free options. You can borrow or hire all the equipment needed to snorkel or dive at the resort. All in all, a relaxing, comfortable place to unplug (there's no phone coverage in most of the island and WiFi costs $5 for 100MB).秋元ゆかり

If your going for a day trip you really don't need to take anything with you other than phone, licence, and anythign else you need for good times. Can walk the island, swim by self or alternatively go with a group. Water was 30-40metres viability. Saw turtles gallore, manta rays, sharks, hundreds of fish, and coral. Good times.Phyllis Wang

If you were to describe a perfect desert island, Lady Elliot would come very close. Abundance of wild life surrounded by crystal clear waters. I felt very privileged to have spent time on the island my only concern that by flying in I hardly helped the conservationeffort!

We didn’t actually have the opportunity to stay on this amazing island (unfortunately). But we did get to take a day trip to the island from Bundaberg. Our trip from beginning to end was AMAZING. My husband and I have traveled a bit over the world and we can truly both say this was the most amazing experience we’ve had together. Our pilot was absolutely fantastic, the guy who greeted us and did our orientation was fantastic (Nick), our glass bottom boat tour was average, we would have preferred to just snorkel on our own.... which is what we did the rest of the afternoon and it was so beautiful! The coral, the starfish, the turtles....it was all so surreal. The peacefulness of the island and the very accommodating staff just make the actual “great barrier reef” snorkeling experience a 6 star experience. Thank you!!!Tantan Tea

This place is out of this world! I went there with our children aged 10-14 and they loved the snorkelling, as well as the games room and some of the talks. 12 and up also went for a scuba dive. The turtles, coral and fish in the lagoon are sublime. The birds everywhere make the place feel fabulously natural. The staff are friendly. The whole place is very down-t-earth. I enjoyed the food which while a buffet, had a home-cooked feel to it. I absolutely loved it, am raving about it and hope to go back again.Kevin Van Beeumen

This place is truly unique. We only stayed only one night and had a such a special time. We we're able to see 3 different species of turtles as well as manta rays during our scuba and diving sessions. Charlotte and Barbara were all stars helping us out there. Both were so knowledge and made us feel like part of the Lady Elliot family Angela Estevez Megiasa year ago

The most beautiful snorkeling I have ever seen. That's the reason to go to Lady Elliott island. The island facilities are ok but not flash. I think that's what you should expect from an eco resort. Minimal environmental impact. You can borrow snorkeling gear, take scuba diving lessons, enjoy a boat trip to some deeper snorkeling areas or take a guided kayak tour. I think families with young children would struggle a bit here as all of the activities require a fairly high level of confidence in the water. The beaches are beautiful, but made of viral so it is not possible for the young ones to dig. There are Noddy birds everywhere around the resort facilities. They make a bit of a mess, but it's their home after all. We loved our day trip here and I highly recommend it. Elias Tassani- Prella year ago

Truly an amazing destination. Right on the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) where it is still healthiest, the wildlife on the Island and in the surrounding reef is truly stunning. The staff are all a joy to learn from and extremely helpful and friendly. Perhaps most importantly the food is of the highest quality and variety. I strongly recommend spending a good few days to maximize your experience and to take a break free from technology and the fast paced, cluttered modern life.If you want to see why we should be doing everything to fight climate change and save the GBR, look no further than Lady Elliot IslandB Herzig

Fantastic, paradise, heaven on earth. If you want beautiful beaches, fabulous snorkeling, superb diving and awesome wildlife you MUST visit Lady Elliot Island. I spent my 30th birthday here and I will never forget it. Scenic flights in and off the island. Turtles, sharks, rays, whales. Sunrise and sunsets on the beach. Platters and champagne on the beach, whilst watching whales breaching and birds flocking in to roost. Night walks seeing frogs, crabs and birds. Star gazing with a telescope too. Great staff and amazing food. We are both vegan and the staff catered for us incredibly well. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough.Justin Wojtalewicz

One of the best places on the island for the reason that Fish feeding happens here. The island conservation the Fishes here, and you'd have an opportunity to snorkel through multiple school of fishes here.I also spotted 3 sharks here, which was amazing. Also, a great sight to spot turtles. This is also a place where baby turtles are set free in the ocean which hatch during the night.catherine stimm

The place is very protected so you can really experience the nature. There is a good variety to the food provided both for breakfast and dinner. Each day only 80 guests are allowed to stay overnight on the island. They do allow day tours however if you are on day tour you won't be able to see turtles!! They come up the beach in very early hours of the morning to lay their eggs! The plane ride was amazing! We basically had the plane to ourselves!Though there is 1 downfall, there is no signal on the island so be prepared to be isolated from the restof the world!

Did a day tour here from Culungatta. Definitely an enjoyable experience, although a bit surprised at the organizing and timing of the day trip program. Trip consisted of a flight to the island, brief tour of the facilities, boat+snorkel trip to the reef on one side of the island, fish feeding in the lagoon, lunch, and then free time before a flight home. Flights to and from the island were professional and uneventful. We stopped in Brisbane on the way. Plane was comfortable despite being very small. Facilities on the island were as expected. Everything was paid for in the tour package, including alcohol, but internet was extra because they have satellite internet only. Lunch was good but not very extraordinary or special. I was surprised at the lack of fish in the lunch buffet. The main draw of the tour was the boat trip out to the reef and the snorkeling, which was fantastic, but cut pretty short. We saw manta rays, turtles, dolphins, and many types of fish. The turtles let us swim with them. We only got to spend about 20 minutes snorkeling from the boat though. We used our free time to snorkel another hour, but didn't see as much then because we didn't have a boat driver with us who knew the right places to stop to see things. We also only went to one side of the island. While the day trip was an exceptional experience and I loved it, it could have been improved I think if the timing was tweaked such that we got to spend more time snorkeling from the boat in different areas. It seems a bit odd that for an entire day trip we only spent 20 minutes doing the main thing that we came there to do.victor spangberg

Worth every penny. If you are there in whale season you will see plenty whales on your trip there. Our pilot was so kind to circle over the whales to give us a good look. The island itself is probably not the most beautiful you will find in the great barrier but the snorkeling is superb. Plenty turtles in various sizes, fish in every color and size and almost guaranteed manta rays. All easily in snorkeling reach. Highly recommended. If you can afford stay a night. Day trip is otherwise just fine as well. Keep a watch on the tides as the lagoon is only accessible during high tide.Tyler Sheaffer

One of the best travel experiences of my life. Truly amazing. The flight over with John was sensational. He pulled around for us to see whales migrating around Fraser Bay and was such a pleasant guy. Once we arrived Sheridan have us a good briefing. We felt prepared for our day. The most remarkable part of the day was snorkeling with Capt. Pedro and Blaze/Blais. My 10 & 13 year old were VERY nervous about being out in the ocean. Blaze made them feel completely comfortable. My daughter particularly felt so proud. Thanks Blaze! I think the only complaint was that when she felt confident enough to keep going the horn blew and we came back to the glass-bottom boat. With that said, still perfect day! What a terrific day!yelena morri

A great experience leaving memories for life. All the staff were helpful and friendly, making the stay much easier. The food that was on the menu was diverse and good. The only thing I can complain about is the bed I slept in, where ants decided to travell across it. All in all, it doesn't matter since the experience was not about sleeping, but more about the amazing coral reefs that you could swim over with snorkeling equipment. Most interesting things we spotted was different kinds of seaturtles and also a few stingrays.ed wake

Our trip to Lady Elliot was the highlight of our entire Australian vacation (so far at least). The flight to the island was on a tiny plane where the pilot took us looking for humpback whales, we managed to find a couple of pods and he banked around them a few times to give each side a good view. The staff on the island was great and friendly! The glass bottom boat ride was really good, managed to see one huge manta ray. This was also a great place to snorkel. We only went out for the day but likely could have used 2 Totally worth the amount paid for the day-long excursion.大宁

Such a great place to see the Great Barrier Reef.Plenty of diving and snorkelling sites and the staff are incredibly helpful. The dive shop guys were awesome and really easy-going to dive with. The various free tours that they run for guests are really interesting and there is surprisingly quite a lot to see on this small island. Our kids had a great time. Highlight for the family was seeing turtle hatchlings emerging from their nests and heading into the sea. The coral and fish life are amazing and are right outside your door and so easily accessible.Accommodation is clean but fairly basic however the food and the staff more than make up for it. There is no mobile or TV coverage on the island, but you can get pay for internet access if you really can't stand being can be off the grid for too long. This is the third time I have been to Lady Elliot Island in 20 years and probablywon't be the last.
