VFR aircraft departing a class C airport are generally issued a clearance prior to taxi. Generally, this is done on the first radio call from the aircraft. These clearances can be very simple. In the flight plan, the departure and arrival airports, aircraft type, requested VFR altitude and beacon code need to be completed.APPROACH CLEARANCES
Aircraft vectored to the final approach course must receive approach clearances that also comply with section 5-9. We’ll look at each of those sections separately. The main distinction between these sections is that approach clearances issued using the phraseology in 4-8 must have the aircraft routed over an initial approach fix or feeder fix. INTRODUCTION TO ZLA
ZLA is one of twenty two Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCC) within VATUSA. Geographically, ZLA covers portions of four states: California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. Within the borders of the ARTCC include three civilian Bravo airports, four civilian Charlie airports, thirty civilian Delta airports, and numerous uncontrolled airports.APPROACH CLEARANCES
AIR TRAFFIC SERVICE ROUTES (AIRWAYS) These airways all begin at ZLA's western boundary. When issuing routes with these types of airways, state the letter phonetically, followed by the number of the route in group form. For an aircraft departing SBA using a route of RZS C1176 DINTY R576, "C1176" would be spoken "Control eleven seventy six" and "R576" would be "Romeo five seventysix."

The following sections will discuss radar separation scenarios for departing aircraft. UNCONTROLLED AIRPORT OPERATIONS Uncontrolled airports are those without an operational controlled tower. This may be due to the fact that the tower is closed or it doesn’t have a tower at all. Traffic will use the CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) to get in and out of the airport. IFR traffic is somewhat restricted as without an operating tower only oneIFR aircraft

ZLA is one of twenty two Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCC) within VATUSA. Geographically, ZLA covers portions of four states: California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. Within the borders of the ARTCC include three civilian Bravo airports, four civilian Charlie airports, thirty civilian Delta airports, and numerous uncontrolled airports.VFR CLEARANCES
VFR aircraft departing a class C airport are generally issued a clearance prior to taxi. Generally, this is done on the first radio call from the aircraft. These clearances can be very simple. VRC SETUP - LOS ANGELES ARTCC - LAARTCC.ORG VRC is the primary controlling tool you will use. It has your radar screen, flight plan editing abilities, and communication capabilities. This is the software you will use to connect to VATSIM. This lesson will cover how to set it up prior to your first session on sweatbox. It will also cover ZLA specific notes on using this software.IFR CLEARANCES
An IFR clearance is an authorization for an aircraft to operate in the IFR System. The 5 critical parts of an IFR clearance are easily remembered using the acronym CRAFT, which stands for Clearance Limit, Route, Altitude, Frequency, and Transponder. 1. Clearance Limit ('C'in 'CRAFT')
UNDERSTANDING SOCAL (SCT) AIRSPACE Understanding SoCal Airspace. The Southern California TRACON (abbreviated SoCal) is one of the world’s busiest TRACONs and serves more than 20 airports. You can find controllers from ZLA opening this facility on the network under the callsign SCT_APP. This means that they are covering the entire TRACON and, where there are no ground ortower

TERMINAL RADAR SERVICE AREA (TRSA) Terminal Radar Service Area (TRSA) is a non-regulatory airspace that overlies some selected class D airports. The purpose of TRSA is to provide VFR aircraft with additional benefits, such as traffic advisories and separation by ATC. Pilots operating under VFR are encouraged to contact the radar approach control and avail themselvesof the TRSA
