IS IT SAFE?
Is it safe to resume normal activity? Without a mask? Without distancing? If you've been vaccinated? I've been trying to figure out a metric or set of metrics that I can put in a formula. SOUTH WATERFRONT PLAN From the FAQ on the Riverfront website: "Knoxville’s City Council appropriated funds to pay for Phase I of the project Mayor Haslam has stated that from this point forward, public dollars will not be used other than to spur investment – including significant private investment – that will increase the city’s tax base. WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH KELLER BEND PARK? By: R. Neal. We were out and about and thought we'd go check out this Keller Bend Park over off Northshore on the "other side" of the lake. The Knox County Parks and Recreation website lists it as a Knox County park (#19 on the map) with 16 acres and a .5 mile nature trail. When we got there, we found that the road stops abruptly (our GPS said LOUISVILLE POINT PARK CANOE AND KAYAK RENTALS BY LITTLE TN Progressive. That sounded like a lot, but it turned out to be a bargain because it's like getting a new pair of $1000 speakers. If you have a pair of vintage Klipsch speakers it's probably worth your while COTTON EYED JOE VIOLATE REGULATIONS Cotton Eyed Joe violate regulations. By: jbr. Despite warnings to avoid large gatherings over the holidays, Knox County bar Cotton Eyed Joe went on business as usual with their annual New Year’s Eve party, then they followed it up with a concert with 1,200 attendees the next day. Ward says masks and hand sanitizer were handed out atthe door
CHANCELLOR CLARENCE EDDIE PRIDEMORE Then he lit into Fansler’s opponent, Clarence “Eddie” Pridemore, whose candidate profile on the Knoxville Bar Association web site says he is a 1992 graduate of Harlan County High School, a 2004 graduate of the University of Alabama (no major subject specified) and MEMORIES OF UNITED AMERICAN BANK FAILING Since bank failures are in the news now, and since there's another thread here at Knoxviews discussing a novel that's apparently a roman a clef about the Butcher brothers. what are your memories of the failure of United American Bank and the rest of the Butcher bankingempire?
GENE PATTERSON LEAVING WATE Gene Patterson is not only the best TV journalist in town, extremely fair, and respectful, he is the most professional. His professionalism also showed when he moderated discussions or hosted meetings separate from WATE. I'm thinking some organization that needs a media consultant should jump at the chance to hire him. Home Log in Register About ContactMobile

City Nature Challenge 2020By: Mello
WHAT: City Nature Challenge 2020 WHEN: Friday, April 24, 2020 - 12:15am WHERE: Backyards all across the world The City Nature Challenge 2020 is the world's largest multi-species bioblitz using the iNaturalist platform. Things are a bit different this year but there is a great deal of nature to be found in our own backyards. Upload your observations from April 24 through April 27 either using the app or directly to the website. (Note, if you are using a camera you can upload your observations taken between the 24th and 27th untillate May 3)
Phase two is the identification phase where you can log in and help ID all the observations that have been uploaded. I'll note here that Knox County, Washington County, metro areas around Chattanooga and Nashville are all defined project areas. Those of you who do not live within those projects won't be counted for the CNC but many researchers and organizations will still appreciate your observations from these days. We've set up another 'project' that will capture all the observations made state wide during the CNC and we hope, with your help, we will break the all time one day record of observations for Tennessee. Since this year the CNC is no longer a competition between cities/counties, I can cheer on Team Knox County organized by the Knoxville Zoo while still being the organizer for Washington County.Join us!

Fox's Dr. Oz pushed opening schools, death rate trade-offBy: bizgrrl
Tuesday, April 14, 2010, Dr. Oz said:
_“First, we need our mojo back,” Oz said Tuesday night, in a sound bite that has since gone viral. He suggested that some things could be opened “without getting into a lot of trouble,” such as schools. “I tell you, schools are a very appetizing opportunity,” he said, adding that resuming classes, according to his reading of a new medical journal analysis, “may only cost us 2 to 3 percent in terms of total mortality.”__ _
_That death rate, he concluded, “might be a trade-off some folkswould consider.”_
Late Thursday, April 16, 2010, Dr. Oz said:_“I misspoke..._"

You know........
By: fischbobber
You know, the far right has really taken a stand against paper ballots, and mail in voting. I mean, these fxxxxx are passionate about it. I'm still looking for my census. It's here somewhere. But, in Knox County, if I've heard right, our voting machines are no more. Does anyone know what we're going to do? Can we bring in observers from the U.N. to make sure the Republicansdon't cheat?

Rep. Gloria Johnson on state's school year planBy: R. Neal
_A twitter thread from @VoteGloriaJ:_
Y’all, this education stuff is a hot mess! I was on a call with the Education Committee, a State BOE member, and folks from State Dept of Ed. to discuss the rules the State Board plans to approve on 2ndreading.
The kids who won’t be caught up are the kids who don’t have internet, who have family responsibility, who work at the grocery store. This is a serious equity issue. They are expecting locals to fix it, but this won’t happen for many kids! Every challenge that hits society hits poor folks hardest. How can they penalize these kids when school wasn’t in and they had no internet, no computer, and no access for whatever reason? We have students who are headed to the military, jobs, apprenticeships, etc. who now may not have a diploma. They can’t do credit recovery and they can’t do summer school. As @JMW_TN41 said, “If you fail these seniors, you will reap a firestorm.” The solution is simple. Every child passes. No child should be punished because of this pandemic. No child should lose their opportunity because of this pandemic. We certainly shouldn’t increase barriers for those with economic challenges. Call the Governor, Ed Chairman Rep White, and every state BOE member and let them know #EveryChildPasses I have already talked to parents whose kids are set to go into the military but are failing. One because they got mono before Spring Break. We can’t hold these kids back because of the pandemic and inequities that kept them from distance learning.Topics:

Ed. Note: The extension is for one week, until 4/20 MAYOR INDYA KINCANNON EXTENDS THE SAFER AT HOME ORDER IN KNOXVILLE Monday, April 13, 2020, Mayor Indya Kincannon signed an extension of the City of Knoxville’s Safer at Home Order. The Safer at Home order keeps non-essential businesses closed, urges residents to stay home when possible and encourages everyone to avoid gathering in groups of more than 10 people. Mayor Kincannon said, “Medical and public health professionals tell us that social distancing is working. By keeping these restrictions in place we save lives and set the foundation for economic recovery.” Kincannon applauded everyone who is practicing social distancing and thanked all essential workers, “I know this is a stressful time, but together we will get through this.” The City of Knoxville’s initial Safer at Home order went into effect Wednesday, April 1, 2020.
