6 DESTINATION WEDDING SEND-OFF IDEAS by Kacey Mya · 0 Comments Every couple wants their wedding to be perfect. It’s why you’ve spent hours looking at different decor options, tasting cake slices, and playing around with invitation designs. You daydream about walking down the aisle, but have you considered your destination weddingsend-off?
Brides and grooms plan send-offs as a final way to celebrate their wedding. Everyone gathers around the exit and cheers you on as you leave with your spouse. A unique, creative touch can make the moment into an event. You may have seen brides running out under a shower of rose petals or birdseed, but you want something extra special. Celebrate your big day with one of these six destination wedding send-off ideas. No matter where you want to say your vows, you can have a big exit that’s fun and different. 1. SAIL INTO THE SUNSET Many couples choose to have their destination wedding somewhere withturquoise waters
and
white sandy beaches. Those are great places to find a breathtaking backdrop for your ceremony, but they also present a unique opportunityfor a send-off.
After your guests have enjoyed the reception and danced the night away, you and your spouse can sail away together. Rent a small boat that will take you back to your hotel or away to a private cabana. 2. FLY AWAY WITH THE WIND An outdoor wedding location with rolling hills and a cool breeze provides the perfect setting to fly away after the ceremony. Find a local business that offers hot air balloon rides. If you’re worried about your budget, you can check for a special discount. DESTINATION WEDDING CATERING TIPSby Kacey Mya ·
When you’re planning a destination wedding, you’ll visit different cities to see which venues and vendors you like. There are so many things to learn as you as you go in the planning process. How destination wedding catering works may be one of them. It’s important to contact local vendors early, so you can reserve your wedding date far in advance and catering is a great place to start. You don’t need to know everything you want to eat or drink at your reception to choose a caterer. Once you start meeting with them, they’ll discuss what they offer and what will work for your theme. Even so, there’s much about catering that leaves couples with questions. Some don’t get answers until after they’ve said theirvows.
Here’s a guide to how catering works for a destination wedding to help you be more prepared to make future decisions and know exactly what will happen on your big day. CHECK WITH YOUR VENUE The best thing you can do for your destination wedding is to choose your venue. After you’ve put down a deposit or know which place you prefer, you can meet with staff to discuss how they’ve worked with caterers in the past. Venues will have different-sized kitchens to work with and space to set up. A small site may not accommodate the buffet you’re picturing or have room for kitchen staff to serve a five-course meal. TRAVEL FOR DESTINATION WEDDING CATERING TASTINGS You know what food you like, but chefs prepare everything a little differently. It can be smart to budget for extra pre-wedding trips, so you can attend tastings with local caterers at your chosen destination. They may use sauces or seasonings you don’t enjoy and it would be unfortunate to discover that once you’ve sat down foryour reception.
Many caterers won’t book a potential client without a tasting for this reason, so plan to go to at least a few times before making your final decision. Before you do, learn the do’s and don’ts about tastings, so you arrive prepared. SCHEDULE THE BAR HOURS The bar at your destination wedding may be part of your catering or a separate contract. Either way, most bartenders will require couples to outline the specific hours they want the bar to remain open. The scheduled hours will affect your budget and your wedding day schedule. Will you get ready on-site and want everyone to enjoy a drink or two before the ceremony, or do you prefer guests to drink late into the night? These preferences will guide how you work on your bar catering contract, so everyone knows what to expect. ESTIMATE PORTION SIZES Sometimes couples become overwhelmed when they try to estimate how much food they’ll need at their reception. Guests will say they’re coming or cancel up until the last minute, especially for destination weddings, when flights may be affected by the weather. The good news is that caterers will plan portions to cater for largegroups of
guests, so you don’t need to do any math or guestimate the cost. They’ll help with adjusting for your guest list, managing last-minute changes, and figuring out what you need to make your meala success.
REMEMBER TO TIP
Take a good look at your catering contract when you’re deciding whether or not to sign on the dotted line. Some businesses include tips to prevent their staff from not getting paid what clients owe them. Others don’t, so figure out how to tip vendors and not accidentally shortchange your caterer after they help you have the perfect wedding day. PREPARE TO GO HOME EMPTY-HANDED After your wedding, you may head home or jet off to your honeymoon. Either way, don’t expect to bring the leftovers with you. Caterers typically bring a little more food than you paid for because it’s better to have too much than not enough. They’ll take back anything they don’t use, so don’t worry about having to deal with leftovers or eat them for a week after your ceremony. ASK ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT DESTINATION WEDDING CATERING Your vendor wants to make your destination wedding catering as easy and enjoyable as possible. Ask any questions you have as you work through your destination wedding catering planning process. They’ll be happy to provide answers and help, so everyone enjoys your big day. DESTINATION WEDDING DECOR: CHOOSING PERFECT PIECESby Kacey Mya ·
Destination weddings capture the hearts of couples every year. It’s romantic to go somewhere new with breathtaking scenery and everyone you love. You may have a destination in mind and count down the days until your flight out of town, but there are many decisions you’ll need to make to plan the celebration of your dreams. You’ll find a few different ways to approach destination wedding planning compared to using a venue in town. One element you’ll have to consider is how to decorate the place, which is where things can get complicated. Make your wedding planning easy by reading about how to choose the perfect destination wedding decor. With the right tips, you’ll pull everything together and have plenty of time left to daydream aboutyour big day.
FIND LOCAL VENDORS
You may have a few vendors in mind or businesses your planner has worked with before. They might be near where you live, which makes it easy to drop by for cake tastings and sampling their products. If your vendors aren’t already at the destination, however, you’ll have to pay hefty fees for shipping. It may be more expensive than you were planning, which is why often times, brides and grooms look for options near the venue. By skipping the national or international shipping costs, you’ll have more money to spend on festivities. PICK DESTINATION WEDDING DECOR THAT WILL SHIP There may be a few things here and there you can’t find around your venue. When you have to ship your decor, go with supplies that will last. Your favorite florist could have a centerpiece arrangement you’re in love with, but will it wilt by the time it arrives? Pick items such as faux flowers and greenery, instead of living arrangements, if possible. Don’t ship anything too fragile or items that could get lost in transportation, and keep your heirlooms backhome.
EXPLORE THE CULTURE
Your wedding destination may be in another country, which presents a unique opportunity to explore the surrounding culture. Take a vacation to the city before your wedding and learn about local traditions you may want in your ceremony. If you’re planning to head to Mexico, for example, you could offer up tequila cocktails and dance to the tune of a mariachi band. On the island of Jamaica, however, you may choose to serve rum punch and jerk chicken. You could also value your heritage and include some of your ancestors’ traditions in your festivities. It all depends on what fits your personality and your wedding vision.REMEMBER THE SEASON
If you’ve set a date, you know what time of year you’ll get married. The season is something that influences much of a celebration’s decor. In the summer, for instance, you could easily enhance your wedding with sea glass or sparklers. Perhaps you’ll add seashells to your reception area or bright flowers to each table. Even if it’s spring or fall, summer decor can perfectly complement the right destination, such as a tropical beach.KEEP IT SIMPLE
It’s easy to get caught up in the endless decor available online and in boutiques. If you feel like you’re overwhelmed by your options, keep it simple. You can let your venue shine when you opt for itemslike balloons
and
greenery as your destination wedding decor. As long as your choices match your theme and the time of year, you’ll pick the right decorations to make your wedding beautiful. TAKE YOUR TIME WHEN PLANNING DESTINATION WEDDING DECOR Take as much time as you can to plan your wedding. You can flip through pictures of what you like, browse decor in person, and see how everything looks when put together. Planning your destination wedding decor doesn’t have to stressful! ENJOY PRE-WEDDING CELEBRATIONS Everyone in your wedding will most likely arrive a day or two early to your destination venue. Make a room block at a family-friendly place, so that everyone stays together, even if it isn’t the same location asyour venue.
MIX THEMED DRINKS
Most destinations have a running theme that carries over into their local food and beverage industry. While you plan your reception, try travel-inspired cocktails using regionally popular recipes. If you’re in an icy wonderland, for instance, you can make a white Russian, a cold
cocktail made with coffee liqueur. DESIGN PERSONALIZED PRINTS No couple wants to get married in a place that doesn’t feel like it has their style. HIRE LOCAL PERFORMERS You’ll find so much to experience in a new destination and many brides and grooms don’t see as much as they want before they have to go home. Bring the culture to you when you hire local performers. They can dance at your wedding or entertain in other ways, so that everyonesees something new.
UNPLUG FOR YOUR DESTINATION WEDDING You’re investing your time and money into your wedding, so be present in every moment. Many brides now choose to unplug for their trip and leave social media behind. Turn off your cell’s notifications and opt to leave the charger at home. You’ll get plenty of pictures from everyone else and bask in the love surrounding you while you’re away from home. USE ECO-FRIENDLY SUPPLIERS Support the local economy beyond the tourism industry by using eco-friendly, local suppliers. For your big exit, toss birdseed that native species will enjoy. Consider what you want your wedding to look like and what kind of travel experience you desire. These destination wedding trends may just help you plan the ultimate ceremony you and your loved ones willnever forget.
A ROMANTIC ITALIAN VILLA DESTINATION WEDDING IN TUSCANYby Gaby ·
It doesn’t get any dreamier than an Italian villa destination wedding! Lindsey and Brendan wed in romantic Tuscany, at the gorgeous Villa Medicea di Lilliano near Florence.
Surrounded by family and friends, the pair said their “I do”s at an outdoor ceremony in the villa’s gardens, in a sweet grotto with a fountain backdrop. Afterwards, they enjoyed aperitifs on the terrace, with spectacular views of the Tuscan countryside and the vineyards and olive groves beyond. Guests were then treated to a delicious sit-down meal inside the villa, at a long table adorned with olive leaves, fragrant eucalyptus, and candlelight. The bride shared their storywith us.
_“I studied abroad in Florence and immediately fell in love with the old world charm of the beautiful city. While sitting on the steps outside of the Uffizi one Tuesday evening, while listening to an acoustic guitar street performance covering Simon and Garfunkel hits, I vividly recall thinking to myself that when I met the love of my life I would bring him here. Fast forward nine years, and my fiancé, Brendan, and I found ourselves discussing over a glass of wine at which vineyard in Virginia we should get married. The conversation quickly turned into ‘if we are going to do a Tuscan style wedding, why not do it in Tuscany?’ Villa Medicea di Lilliano quickly came up in our internet search and with the exquisite vistas and easy communication with the staff, it was a no-brainer for us to lock inthis estate.”_
_“It was important to us not to do too much decoration, because we always felt that the surrounding area served all the beauty we’d require. We’ve always thought of Italian food as simple with few ingredients, but powerful flavor. It was important to translate this concept in our design. With the help of Franci’s Flowers, we were sold on the idea of simple white peonies with a few soft pink flowers thrown in for the other ‘ingredients’, if you will. We let the fashion take care of the powerful ‘burst of flavor’. The groomsmen wore a bold blue that popped, while the bridal party was in soft grey for balance. This all worked well with our Tuscan vista. Our guests wore some vivid dresses and the cloudy sky coincidentally put the finishing touches on the scene.”_ _“There are a couple memories that we play on repeat in our heads. The first, oddly enough, was the day before the wedding when we both visited the venue for the first time to do a walkthrough. We made our way through the estate landing in the garden where our ceremony was to be set up. We were able to take in the watercolor-like backdrop of Tuscany, just the two of us. While what our eyes saw felt very surreal, the joy that overcame us was palpable. The other highlight for us came during our dinner reception. Suddenly, the music stopped just after our first course and in walked the tenor, who broke out in a beautiful Italian song. This moment shocked all our guests and even caused many happy tears. And how can we not mention ALL of thefood?!”_
_“We were highly appreciative of the La Torre Villas at Villa Medicea di Lilliano. Having our guests in one area where we could spend the entire weekend together topped off our unforgettable wedding experience. Additionally, the preferred vendors that we worked with were as good as it gets. Special thanks to Delizia Ricevimenti, Alma Project, Jules Photography, and Franci’s Flowers!”_ Congratulations to the newlyweds!
