Beutel is an ISPU Fellow and independent research consultant, where he specializes in the study and analysis of American Muslim civic engagement, combating hate and extremism in the United States, and domestic countering violent extremism. COUNTERING AND DISMANTLING ISLAMOPHOBIA: A COMPREHENSIVE Islamophobia manifests in many different anti-Muslim activities. Khaled Beydoun, a scholar of Islamophobia, identifies three types of Islamophobia: structural, individual, and dialectic.. Structural Islamophobia is reflected in institutionalized anti-Muslim legislation and further perpetuated through dialectical Islamophobia via policing, bias in media representation and in the legal system AMERICAN MUSLIMS AND AGING Mosque leaders would like individuals, families, and the community to converse openly about aging and to look beyond the mosque to fulfill the care-related needs of older American Muslims. In many cases, caring for the older population is limited to caring for one’s parents. Islam, however, strongly guides the community to care for allelders.

CATHERINE'S STORY
EQUIPPING FAITH LEADERS “It is not enough that people don’t know about Islam and Muslims,” says Catherine Orsborn, Executive Director of the Shoulder to Shoulder Campaign. “It’s that they think they know a lot, and we need to work through all these myths that they’ve been entrenched in.” The Shoulder to Shoulder Campaign equips American faith leaders with tools to address anti-Muslim discrimination and violence. They come into contact with many people who don’t know a single Muslim person, yet have internalized a lifetime of anti-Muslim rhetoric. ISPU research is key in banishing those dangerous stereotypes… Readmore→
