I love the new office! It’s very clean, comfortable and pleasant to be in! The care I have received has been invaluable and I would recommend Intown Counseling and Scott highly. I owe a great deal of my personal development and understanding of myself to Scott and his expertise. I am so very thankful!
I have been seeing Scott Leenan close to 2 years. In this time, he has helped me explore my life experiences and relationships to come to a fuller understanding of myself. Some of the areas we have made a substantial a mount of progress in are the following:self evaluation, anxiety, addiction, self esteem, and bereavement. He has created a comfortable and safe place for me to work on myself and has changed my perspective about several pessimistic outlooks I had on life. He has shown he genuinely cares about my well-being. His approach to helping me work through my issues has not been to tell me what to do. I always feel like I am making the decisions and he is providing me with the outside perspective I need to take the actions necessary to achieve the goals we have set together. Ultimately, working with Scott has not only helped me with self acceptance, my relationships are better and I am approaching life events with courage instead of fear.
Scott and his practice Intown Counseling & Wellness are a blessing for the intown Atlanta community. He is an excellent counselor and therapist, that helps his clients succeed in many different aspects. He is very experienced, well-respected in the community, and a genuinely nice person. He treats all of his clients with respect and dignity. I highly recommend Scott Leenan for all of your mental health needs.
Scott helped me to really tease apart a complicated issue I was dealing with. My ability to deal with things was compromised by the complexity, and he helped me to figure out how to not overreact and also not under-react to the situation and what I was feeling. With Scott’s help, I feel that I am not only back on track, but with an upgraded train and maybe a new and better destination.
I am thankful for the time my therapist spends seeing me. She really is accommodating. Time is of the essence for many people so I never feel rushed or just worked into the schedule. I have been improving and growing through the therapy experience. I have recommend the practice to others.
Melissa has been an amazing therapist. I have gained so much insight about myself from our discussions. Her willingness to allow me to be an equal in my own therapy has been invaluable. I truly leave each session feeling empowered. Our sessions do not feel prescribed or routine. Instead they feel honest, authentic, and full kernels of truth that I can readily apply to my everyday life. Melissa has been a tremendous guide for me on my path to wellness of the mind, body and spirit.
Before I began seeing Melissa, I had attempted to diagnose and self-treat my anxiety and depression for nearly a decade. During this time my symptoms only became worse and one issue manifested into struggles with eating, body image, confidence, and more. After accepting that therapy was a necessary step to take, I began weekly sessions with Melissa where we focused on developing cognitive-behavioral strategies. The exercises she provided me as weekly homework were always manageable, relevant, and helped tremendously. The frequency of our sessions decreased as my condition improved, and in less than a year I “graduated” from our regular sessions. Shortly after our sessions ended, I moved in the direction of picking up my old habits. However, before I could even schedule an appointment to see her, I had successfully turned myself around, back towards recovery. I understand that relapse is common, but I am confident that her treatment has given me the strength and aptitude to maintain these healthy habits, and live a healthy and happy life. I was never been able to be proud of myself until I began seeing and making progress with Melissa. I am forever grateful to her for helping me work through my struggles, and finally begin to live my life. She equipped me with skills that I will continue to practice and gave me information that I will reference for the rest of my life.
Afton has been a wonderful therapist for our 7yo. She is patient and inventive with our child. She listens to all of our concerns and adapts her therapy techniques for our child. She has given us many strategies to try. We would recommend her highly to any of our friends.
Blessings to the counselors who have been aiding our family to smooth the daily life and early development of our child. She absolutely loves her counselor and cannot wait to talk to her. Such a positive influence to counterbalance what this modern life throws at a child!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS IS THERAPY RIGHT FOR ME?____ Seeking out therapy is an individual choice and there are many reasons why people come to therapy. Sometimes it is to deal with long-standing psychological issues, or problems with anxiety or depression. Other times it is in response to unexpected changes in one's life such as a divorce or work transition. Many seek the advice of counsel as they pursue their own personal exploration and growth. Working with a therapist can help provide insight, support, and new strategies for all types of life challenges. Therapy can help address many types of issues including depression, anxiety, conflict, grief, stress management, body-image issues, and general life transitions. Therapy is right for anyone who is interested in getting the most out of their life by taking responsibility, creating greater self-awareness, and working towards change in their lives. DO I REALLY NEED THERAPY?____ Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you've faced, there's nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. In fact, therapy is for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and that is something to be admired. You are taking responsibility by accepting where you're at in life and making a commitment to change the situation by seeking therapy. Therapy provides long-lasting benefits and support, giving you the tools you need to avoid triggers, re-direct damaging patterns, and overcome whatever challenges you face. HOW CAN THERAPY HELP ME?____ A number of benefits are available from participating in psychotherapy. Therapists can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, grief, stress management, body image issues and creative blocks. Many people also find that counselors can be a tremendous asset to managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, marriage issues, and the hassles of daily life. Therapists can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in the direction of a solution. The benefits you obtain from therapy depend on how well you use the process and put into practice what you learn. Some of the benefits available from therapy include: * Attaining a better understanding of yourself, your goals andvalues
* Developing skills for improving your relationships * Finding resolution to the issues or concerns that led you to seektherapy
* Learning new ways to cope with stress and anxiety * Managing anger, grief, depression, and other emotional pressures * Improving communications and listening skills * Changing old behavior patterns and developing new ones * Discovering new ways to solve problems in your family or marriage * Improving your self-esteem and boosting self-confidence WHAT IS THERAPY LIKE?____ Every therapy session is unique and caters to each individual and their specific goals. It is standard for therapists to discuss the primary issues and concerns in your life during therapy sessions. It is common to schedule a series of weekly sessions, where each session lasts around fifty minutes. Therapy can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue, or longer-term, addressing more complex issues or ongoing personal growth. There may be times when you are asked to take certain actions outside of the therapy sessions, such as reading a relevant book or keeping records to track certain behaviors. It is important process what has been discussed and integrate it into your life between sessions. For therapy to be most effective you must be an active participant, both during and between the sessions. People seeking psychotherapy are willing to take responsibility for their actions, work towards self-change and create greater awareness in their lives. Here are some things you can expect out of therapy: * Compassion, respect and understanding * Perspectives to illuminate persistent patterns and negativefeelings
* Real strategies for enacting positive change * Effective and proven techniques along with practical guidance IS MEDICATION A SUBSTITUTE FOR THERAPY?____ In some cases a combination of medication and therapy is the right course of action. Working with your medical doctor you can determine what's best for you. It is well established that the long-term solution to mental and emotional problems and the pain they cause cannot be solved solely by medication. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of our distress and the behavior patterns that curb our progress. You can best achieve sustainable growth and a greater sense of well being with an integrative approachto wellness.
DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE? HOW DOES INSURANCE WORK?____ If you have medical insurance with mental health benefits, then some or all of your fees may be covered. As a courtesy, we will contact your insurance company to determine whether you have benefits and if we are "in-network." If so, you will be responsible for your co-pay at the time of your appointment. If you are not in network, your insurance provider will likely pay a percentage of the fees at an "out-of-network" rate. In that case, you will be responsible to pay for services at the time of your appointment and your insurance company will reimburse you a percentage of the cost. While we take insurance, many people, insured or not, choose to pay out-of-pocket to avoid releasing sensitive information to their insurance company. Most often, this is due to concerns about the privacy of protected health information, and the sharing of this information with health insurance companies and their affiliated entities. If you don't have insurance, Intown Counseling & Wellness is willing to work with you. Reduced fee services are available on a limited basis; please call our office formore information.
