Prehospital prediction of severe injury in road traffic injuries: A multicenter cross-sectional study Pongsakorn Atiksawedparit, Sasivimol Rattanasiri, Yuwares Sittichanbuncha, Mark McEvoy, Paibul Suriyawongpaisal, John Attia, Ammarin Thakkinstian DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.injury.2019.05.028 Injury, Vol. 50, Issue 9Open Access PreviewFull-Text HTML PDF Supplemental Materials xRoad traffic injury (RTI) is the most common event for emergency medical services , accounting for approximately 23% of injury related deaths worldwide . In Thailand, RTI was responsible for half of all injuries (49.4%), and accounted for 64.3% of injury related deaths in 2005 . Despite the implementation of several programs (e.g., traffic law enforcement, traffic calming intervention, etcetera.) the high mortality rate remains .*
Pulseless electrical activity following traumatic cardiac arrest: Signof life or death?
S Israr, AD Cook, KM Chapple, JV Jacobs, KP McGeever, BR Tiffany, SP Schultz, SR Petersen, JA Weinberg DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.injury.2019.05.025 Injury, Vol. 50, Issue 9 PreviewFull-Text HTML PDF xDespite a trend toward improved survival among hospitalized trauma patients, death following traumatic cardiac arrest (TCA) remains the expected outcome. A recent systematic review demonstrated a 96.7% mortality rate for adult patients with TCA . Asystole and pulseless electrical activity (PEA) are the most commonly observed cardiac electrical rhythms associated with TCA, the latter being the most common and both associated with dismal prognosis . Nonetheless, PEA is considered to be a sign of life, prompting ongoingresuscitation.

An audit of the polytrauma fracture detection rate of clinicians evaluating lodox statscan bodygrams in two South African public sectortrauma units
FC Holdt, RD Pitcher DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.injury.2019.07.036 Injury, Vol. 50, Issue 9 PreviewFull-Text HTML PDF xThere is growing global demand for specialized emergency radiological examinations, and an expectation that all such examinations will be reported timeously . The trend is exemplified by the burgeoning use of computerized tomography (CT) in trauma . The increase in trauma-related CT has contributed to delayed or non-reporting of plain trauma radiographs internationally. This is particularly true in resource-limited environments, where patient management is largely determined by the radiographic interpretive skills of referringclinicians .
