The report finds that in better off countries, in 2017 alone, 27.1 million years were lived with disability due to a number of largely preventable age-related diseases AGE AND THE NATIONAL TRAVEL SURVEY Ten things we learnt about age from the recently published Department for Transport 2014 National Travel Survey (England). 1) Between 1965 and 2014, older people have significantly increased the distance they travel. 2) The distance we travel peaks in our 40s before starting to decline. 3) A growing proportion of older people are holders of NOT-SO-YOUNG OFFENDERS: OLDER PEOPLE AND THE CRIMINAL The average time spent in prison has increased from 8.1 months in 1999 to 9.9 months in 2015. GLOBAL ALLIANCE WEBINAR: WHY GENDER MATTERS The ILC Global Alliance Gender and Ageing committee had a discussion on how gender impacts on health and wellbeing in an ageing world. The Gender and Ageing committee, established last year by the ILC Global Alliance Board, aims to provide a platform to better understand the intersection between gender and ageing and its implications for policymakers around the world. EXPLORING THE ROLE OF PHARMACY IN THE PRIMARY HEALTH CARE Three core areas in which pharmacy plays a key role in healthy ageing and primary health care include the effective management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), the promotion of vaccination and immunisation, and the support of adherence to treatments. AGE AND THE NATIONAL TRAVEL SURVEY Ten things we learnt about age from the recently published Department for Transport 2014 National Travel Survey (England). 1) Between 1965 and 2014, older people have significantly increased the distance they travel. 2) The distance we travel peaks in our 40s before starting to decline. 3) A growing proportion of older people are holders of NOT-SO-YOUNG OFFENDERS: OLDER PEOPLE AND THE CRIMINAL The average time spent in prison has increased from 8.1 months in 1999 to 9.9 months in 2015. More people are being found guilty of sex and drug offences, which typically carry longer terms. We have also seen a recent surge in convictions for historic sex offences, which has resulted in an increase in older convicts entering prison.WHAT WE WANT
