The common ancestor was a shrimp-like animal that developed a sort of pouch around its chelicerae to keep the antennas and mouthparts moist. From there the phylum splits into 2 major branches, one containing the ‘neckless animals’ (acerviciae); trunkhorses and birds, and the other containing the ‘short-clawed animals’ (brachychelicerae): jaubja and the birdbug lineage.IGUANODON'T
Iguanodon't. Creature profile: “Sea Wolf”. This elusive cryptid is represented in the art and folklore of Pacific Northwest tribes. To the Haida people, it is the Wasgo, to the Tlingit, it is Gonakadet. Depictions vary, but it is generally described as having only forelimbs, small horns, a long body, and some fur on the back/behindthe head.

Alright first redraw: the Ahuizotl! Brushing up on its lore I found some theories that it may have been inspired by the opossum, known locally as tlacuache.Considering south America’s rich history of marsupial diversity, it’s not too much of a stretch to imagine one of them taking on a more aquatic niche (before moving north toMexico).

Do Birgs have toothbrushes? Not exactly? They have chewing sticks, which are just fibrous twigs they kinda shove between their chelicerae sometimes to scrub out any yuck. Bad hygiene combined with an uncommonly sugary diet can lead to decay between the paired beaks, but they’re a good bit sturdier than our own delicate teeth.IGUANODON'T

Thinking about these little insect-like animals on the birdbug planet I’m collectively referring to as “bumblebirds”. All share piercing mouthparts and compact, fuzzy bodies. Most of them feed on sap and are major pollinators of certain plant which have co-evolved special pits full of sugary reservoirs similar to nectar in the flowers of earth plants. Little pockets of pollen on the stalk burst when disturbed and spew their cargo onto the fuzz of feeding bumblebirds, which spread it to the “female” bumps on other plants. There are hematophagous species as well, like huge, adorablemosquitos……

FREETACOALIENDRAGON asked: In the time of the wild wild west prostitution played a big part in it's development's of colonization and infrastructure, so given the inspiration, what is prostitution like in bird bug culture? I imagine it might be something like a strange carnival of sorts? Since males only role up a once a year. Yeah, more or less! The Twowi (the colonizers in this story) are not nomadic, having given up that life for agriculture and city building, where sex work became one of the “guilds” that a young male could join. Visiting with the opposite sex at the Wrong time of year is frowned upon, especially for ladies in high ranking positions or upstanding clans. However, same sex interactions are fairly common, comprising a pretty hefty chunk of business. Twowi frontier towns are similarly segregated, often composed of a single family clan and a handful of skilled males that want to keep their business in good standing. Seizing the opportunity in a land of relaxed social norms, some young lads banded together to revive the unregulated visitations of their roving ancestors. Enterprising performers, singers, etc might also join these traveling bands for protection on similar circuits; many shared a backstory of bad fortune or social ostracism from their homeland. It wasn’t long before it was simply expected that traveling shows would include prostitutes, who often also had their own stint to attract customers. This also forced me to think about what might be considered sexy to these guys. I’m not sure I’m entirely satisfied with what I’ve got so far, and most wandering prostitutes probably dress with whatever is available to them, but here are some doodles i love when people ask me questions because it forces me to actually come up with something imstead of just waffle on things forever sorry this took an enture month aliens worldbuildingswooce

They are 8 feet tall, weigh 1000 pounds and evolved from omnivorous scavengers that hunt in packs, like social entelodonts. females are ten times the size of males and unlike them, sapient. Males live in symbiosis with females and other than fertilizing their hosts every season also clean them of parasites. @iguanodont @dimetrodone Hi! I also like designingaliens.

ANONYMOUS asked:
what are flightless gryphons Closely related to flighted gryphons, but they favored size and strength over staying lightweight enough to fly. I’ll go ahead and give honorable mention to keythongs here and say some of the smaller species developed quills for protection.ask dragon

ANONYMOUS asked:
Are Sirrush related to the Qilin? Yes! They are from sister families of asiatic dragons. While they share derived characters such as longer legs and reduced tails, they differ in other regards; qilin are much bulkier, have heavier scales, and a more herbivorous diet than sirrushes. trying to get back into the swing of answering asks probably gonna keep the replies mostly short n sweet like thisask dragon
