SYNOPTIC GOSPELS PRIMER The gospel of Thomas provides evidence that the parable of the sower could & did circulate in early Christian circles without any explanatory comments. Yet, all of the synoptic gospels record substantially the same explanation in exactly the same place -- not directly after the parable itself, but after a discussion of Jesus' rationale for using parables that claims Jesus' disciples were JESUS' DEBATE WITH THE DEVIL Jesus' Debate with the Devil. 21. SYNOPTIC GOSPELS PRIMER The prevailing solution to the synoptic problem for the past century among scholars trained in literary criticism of the gospels. Simply put, the thesis is that the gospels of Matthew & Luke are independent compositions, each based on two earlier texts: Mark & Q. (1) The basic premise is the priority of Mark. Mark is identified as the source of the narrative structure of the other twoDAMASCUS COVENANT

The Jesus Seminar Forum is an introduction to the research of the Jesus Seminar of the Westar Institute & a bridge to Jesus scholarship on line.: Convened in 1985 by Robert W. Funk, the Jesus Seminar has become a lightning rod for international debate about the "historical Jesus" - that is, the real facts about the person to whom various Christian gospels refer. SYNOPTIC GOSPELS PRIMER This Synoptic Gospels Primer is designed for students in college level courses on the gospels or anyone else interested in the "Synoptic Problem."It was created for undergraduate New Testament courses at Rutgers University (New Brunswick campuses). There is enough sustained agreement between the sequence of sayings & deeds that Matthew, Mark & Luke ascribe to Jesus to convince most scholars that the story-line of these gospels comes from the sametext.

A DEVIL OF A TEST- THE UN-TRADITIONAL HISTORY OF JESUS Since the synoptic stories were not spun in splendid isolation, a claim that information was invented by one writer must be measured by the coherence of the alleged author's plan of composition and the pattern of redaction by the others.
