THE WORM Ajahn Brahmavamso. There is a wonderful little story about two monks who lived together in a monastery for many years; they weregreat friends.

GUILT - VIEW ON BUDDHISM Introduction to Buddhist approach to guilt. TWO TYPES OF GUILT. One can distinguish two types of guilt: the first one is simply the fact that one is guilty of doing something, and the second type refers to seeing or projecting one's mistakes, while not knowing what to do about them or refusing to correct them.It is the second type that leads to a lot of mental suffering in Western culture. TONGLEN - GIVING AND TAKING MEDITATION - VIEW ON BUDDHISM Introduction to the (meditation) practice of 'tonglen' or taking andgiving.
THE FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS The reason that we experience suffering comes ultimately from our mind. According to Buddhism, our main mental problems or root delusions are: attachment, anger and ignorance.Because of these delusions, we engage in actions that cause problems to ourselves andothers.

WHY TAKE REFUGE? "Taking refuge" makes the difference between Buddhists and non-Buddhists. It is not even necessary to take refuge in a formal session with a teacher, but it may help to clarify your choice and to remember your commitment. TIMELINE OF BUDDHIST HISTORY Buddhist historic timeline. TIME-LINE . Please note that most of below dates are approximations only and inclusion of major developments has been very arbitrary by the webmaster. THE DHARMA - THE TEACHINGS THE KALAMA DISCOURSE . One time, when the Buddha passed through the city of Kalama, people asked him: "So many teachers were here, and all of them gave us excellent teachings, but they contradict each other. SYMBOLISM OF THE FIVE DHYANI BUDDHAS Symbolism of the five Dhyani Buddhas. The five Dhyani Buddhas are mentioned in most of the tantric systems and represent various physical and mental aspects.BUDDHIST QUOTES
BUDDHIST QUOTES AND SAYINGS. This is a small selection of my favorite Buddhist quotes. For a much larger collection, sorted by subject, see the Buddhist Quotes section.. Just as the highest and the lowest notes are equally inaudible, so perhaps, is the greatest sense and the greatest nonsense equally unintelligible.ACCEPTING ONESELF
ACCEPTING ONESELF . From Ayya Khema's: 'All of Us Beset by birth, decay, and death': Twelve Dhamma Talks On Practice given on Parappuduwa Nuns Island by Sister Ayya Khema DEATH REBIRTH MEDITATION PRELIMINARIES AND DEDICATION. In order to make the most out of the following analytical meditations, it is important to realise that one should not only observe the analytical mind, but also the emotions and feelings that come up. THE THREE VEHICLES: HINAYANA, MAHAYANA AND TANTRAYANA "Somebody once asked how one could fit together various traditions that represented the Buddha's teaching. One can think of Buddha's Dharma as a wonderful seed planted in the earth, out of which has blossomed a tree with deep roots, great branches, leaves, flowers, andfruits.
QUOTATIONS ON: SOCIETY I make a distinction between Buddhism with a Capital 'B' and buddhism with a small 'b'. Sri Lanka has the former, in which the state uses Buddhism as an instrument of power, so there are even Buddhists monks who say the Tamils should be eliminated.SEARCH THIS SITE

_A View on Buddhism_"Don't try to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a Buddhist; use it to be a better whatever-you-already-are." _His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama _ Are you interested in Buddhism, but perhaps also somewhat confused
about it?
Buddhism developed in Asia and therefore contains many concepts that are not well known in other parts of the world. Also, over the 2,500 years since its origin, many different traditions have developed within Buddhism that all have slightly different views and practices that may even appear to contradict each other. The main purpose of this personal website is to share some basic information on the philosophy, practice and history of Buddhism that I found useful in giving my life a purpose and direction. My own background lies mainly in the Tibetan tradition, but I have tried to keep the information in these pages as down-to-earth and general as possible to provide an accessible introduction for beginners. ARE YOU NEW TO BUDDHISM? Then perhaps start at the 'Where to Begin' page, and after
that, it may be best to focus on the pages in the sections the _THREE JEWELS_, _PHILOSOPHY_, _PROBLEMATIC EMOTIONS_, _PRACTICE AND MEDITATION_ on the left. These are set up like a 'What is Buddhism' course. In the beginning, it may be better to avoid clicking on too many links; these are mainly intended to lead to a deeper level of study materials once you become a bit familiar with the basics. If you have a little bit of experience and interest in (Buddhist) meditation, then the guided meditations in the _PRACTICE & MEDITATION_ Section, _PROBLEMATIC EMOTIONS_ and _HISTORY OF BUDDHISM_ may be helpful. However, to really learn Buddhist meditation, there is no substitute to visit a center or group where people give guided meditations and explanations in person. The other pages on the left contain mainly extra information, like a glossary, stories and quotations, symbolism etc. This site is intended to present Buddhist teachings, and they are free for you to enjoy! None of the text on these pages is copyrighted (except where explicitly noted) for non-commercial use, but if you use a text, a link back to this website is much appreciated. You will find some commercial links on this website to cover the main costs of this website. Any extra income is donated to Dharma projects. This website keeps growing 'organically': every now and then there may be an extra page, but usually new bits and pieces are added to pages when I come across quotations or links which may be interesting. Per September 2006, I'm happy to host a number of Polish prayers and commentaries on this site. And since March 2008, thanks to Melanie Pelka, a considerable part of the site is translated into German . Many thanks also to Thomas from Slovakia for giving ideas for the latest re-design of 2011! _May whoever sees, hears, talks, or even thinks about this website, Never be born in the lower realms, Receive only perfect human rebirths, Meet a perfectly qualified spiritual Guide, Quickly achieve the fully enlightened state, And as a Buddha, lead all other beings to enlightenment._ _Rudy Harderwijk. _ _email me _
