ABOUT US - THIS GIRL CAN About Us. This Girl Can celebrates active women who are doing their thing no matter how they do it, how they look or even how sweaty they get. Launched in 2015, we have successfully persuaded nearly three million women to get more active – but our work isn’t done yet. RESOURCES FOR SCHOOLS Resources for Schools. We commissioned the Youth Sport Trust to create a resource for secondary schools. The resource supports teachers and girls to develop and deliver a This Girl Can campaign in their school. The campaign recognises that friends are the greatest influencers on adolescent girls and that positive encouragement and support from CREATE YOUR OWN EVENT POSTER Create your own event poster. We’ve created a poster template that makes it easier to quickly produce your own This Girl Can materials without needing design skills or specialist software. BOXING - THIS GIRL CAN Boxing is a combat between two competitors in a ring who attempt to land punches on one another, with judges scoring points as blows are landed. Participants wear padded gloves and spar in protective head-gear to minimise the possibility of injury. But you can also box as a workout without ever hitting anyone (or being hit yourself).RUNNING & JOGGING
Running & Jogging. Simple, cheap and effective. Running includes quick walking, jogging, running and racing – it really doesn’t matter how fast or slow you are. OLIVIA - THIS GIRL CAN I’m only 6 but I have been skiing for half my life. My Mum and Dad took me for my first skiing lesson just after my 3rd birthday. Before I was born, I was diagnosed with the medical condition Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). This meant my lungs didn’t grow properly, my heart was pushed over to one side and my tummy was whereone lung

The main barrier that has stopped me getting active in the past was not having enough time to make fitness a habit. Played between two teams, usually on an outdoor pitch, the aim in hockey is to put a ball into your opponent’s goal using a stick. Hockey is a great team sport which is easy to pick up and combines tactics and team work with a great aerobic workout! OLIVIA - THIS GIRL CAN I’m only 6 but I have been skiing for half my life. My Mum and Dad took me for my first skiing lesson just after my 3rd birthday. Before I was born, I was diagnosed with the medical condition Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). This meant my lungs didn’t grow properly, my heart was pushed over to one side and my tummy was whereone lung

I’m a 40-year-old woman, wife of 18 years with two gorgeous teenagers. I started going to the gym about 3 years ago on a doctor’s referral due to some unexplained hip pain. BEING ACTIVE WHILE PREGNANT Being active and exercising while you are pregnant is an excellent way to help you adapt to your changing body and prepare for birth while building strength to carry that extra bump. If you are already active it is great to continue as long as you feel comfortable and there are a range of exercises that you can do – no matter your fitnesslevels.

Launched in 2015, we have successfully persuaded nearly three million women to get more active – but our work isn’t done yet. RESOURCES FOR SCHOOLS Resources for Schools. We commissioned the Youth Sport Trust to create a resource for secondary schools. The resource supports teachers and girls to develop and deliver a This Girl Can campaign in their school. The campaign recognises that friends are the greatest influencers on adolescent girls and that positive encouragement and support from CREATE YOUR OWN EVENT POSTER Create your own event poster. We’ve created a poster template that makes it easier to quickly produce your own This Girl Can materials without needing design skills or specialist software. BOXING - THIS GIRL CAN Boxing is a combat between two competitors in a ring who attempt to land punches on one another, with judges scoring points as blows are landed. Participants wear padded gloves and spar in protective head-gear to minimise the possibility of injury. But you can also box as a workout without ever hitting anyone (or being hit yourself). SWIMMING - THIS GIRL CAN Related water sports and activities include: water polo, diving, octopush, synchronised swimming and lifesaving. Running & Jogging. Simple, cheap and effective. Running includes quick walking, jogging, running and racing – it really doesn’t matter how fast or slow you are. Just find what works for you, by building up gradually. Running can be great fun and very sociable – you can run with a friend, make new friends with a beginners group, go to your KICKBOXING - THIS GIRL CAN Kickboxing. Kickboxing traditionally includes a blend of boxing and karate, however you’ll find a variety of different classes focusing on everything from cardio conditioning and dance to self-defense, martial arts, and one-on-one competition.
