NANCY WARD GRAVESITE Nancy Ward Gravesite. Located on Hwy 411, south of Benton, is the gravesite of Nancy Ward, Beloved Woman of the Overhill Cherokees, and her son Five Killer. The graves overlook the lush banks of the Ocoee River. A statue of Nancy Ward, created by a purported descendant, stood in a cemetery in Grainger County, Tennessee for about 70 years. BENTON-HOUSTON FERRY The ferries (tugs and barges) are owned by the State of Tennessee and operated by River Marine Service, Inc., located in Clarksville, Tennessee. The contractor operates the ferries 365 days per year, weather permitting. BENTON-HOUSTON FERRY The ferries (tugs and barges) are owned by the State of Tennessee and operated by River Marine Service, Inc., located in Clarksville, Tennessee. The contractor operates the ferries 365 days per year, weather permitting. The Benton-Houston Ferry is one of only two ferries in the state and considered the last ferry operating on theTennessee River.
NANCY WARD GRAVESITE Nancy Ward Gravesite. Located on Hwy 411, south of Benton, is the gravesite of Nancy Ward, Beloved Woman of the Overhill Cherokees, and her son Five Killer. The graves overlook the lush banks of the Ocoee River. A statue of Nancy Ward, created by a purported descendant, stood in a cemetery in Grainger County, Tennessee for about 70 years. BALD RIVER FALLS
The Bald River is a major tributary of the Tellico River located in the southern district of the Cherokee National Forest. The Bald River empties into the Tellico River and cascades over rocks forming a large waterfall, Bald River Falls, reported to be 90 to 100 feet high.
