In its exhibition “Trains, Locomotives, and People,” the Deutsches Technikmuseum focuses on the history of important rail vehicles and the people whose lives were touched by the railroad. HISTORICAL SUITCASE PRODUCTION Down to the 19 th century, suitcases were made by craftsmen in a series of workshops. Joiners made wooden boxes, pursemakers covered them with leather, and then locksmiths attached locks and metal fittings. In the mid-19 th century, suitcase-making became a trade in its own right. Such craftsmen had to master riveting, nailing, screwing, sewing, and gluing. JOBS - STIFTUNG DEUTSCHES TECHNIKMUSEUM BERLIN Become part of our team! The first public screening of a movie in Germany took place on November 1, 1895 at the “Wintergarten” theater in Berlin. As the finale to a variety show, Max and Emil Skladanowsky, two brothers from Berlin, showed the movie Living Photographs using the Bioscop, a double projector of their own invention. The Bioscop was popularly referred to as the “crank box” (Kurbelkasten), whereas SCIENCE CENTER SPECTRUM Science Center Spectrum is a building full of experiments – an entirely hands-on museum where visitors can have fun learning about the fundamentals of science and technology.ROAD TRANSPORT
Whether walking, pedaling a bicycle, or riding in a limousine, human beings have always been constantly on the go. The exhibition “On the Move”, occupying 1,400 m2 of space in the Deutsches Technikmuseum, is devoted to the history of road transport from pre-industrial oxcarts to the mass diffusion of automobiles in the 20th cent SUGAR - STIFTUNG DEUTSCHES TECHNIKMUSEUM BERLIN When we refer to sugar in everyday life, we usually mean sucrose, also called table sugar or granulated sugar. This sweet, white substance, which makes so many foods so irresistible, was a luxury good in Europe 500 years ago, a treat for kings and queens. STIFTUNG DEUTSCHES TECHNIKMUSEUM BERLIN* Über uns
