The Tree of Knowledge forms the core of our coaching curriculum, and as far as we know there is nothing like this available anywhere else. In 1950, George Downing produces the first big-wave surfboard.‘Rocket’ was a 10 foot surfboard; narrow, streamlined and with a pointed tail inspired by the ‘Hot Curl design’, but constructed from balsa, fibreglass and resin, it allowed Downing, Wally Froiseth, Woody Brown and others to push the limits of big wave surfing. In 1951, Downing introduces the removable fin system to THE HISTORY OF SURFBOARD DESIGN: THE FISH The Fish, designed by San Diego kneeboarder Steve Lis in 1967, is one of the most versatile and enduring surfboard designs going. Originally designed to provide the increased speed and manoeuvrability that Lis required to ride the hollow, punchy waves of his home breaks, the fish’s most obvious features – short, wide, and thick with flat rocker and a split-tail underlined by two keel finsCHRONICLES OF VEE

Born in 1967, “Vee” was the daughter of Australian surfing and innovative engineering. She was by no means your typical type of bottom contour. SURFING THE BLACK SEA The water is 5-12 degrees Celcius in the spring. In the summer we get good, constant swells and sometimes big storms that create very good waves up to 2 metres high with warm water ranging from 19-25 degrees Celcius. In autumn we also get constant swell and some of the best waves the Black Sea can offer: 3 metre high waves with offshore wind. THE HISTORY OF SURFBOARD DESIGN: NAT YOUNG'S MAGIC SAM Magic Sam was a short-lived yet essential design in the history of the surfboard – a transition model. Deeply influenced by his friends and fellow futurists Bob McTavish and George Greenough, and borrowing extensively from Velzy’s Pig template, Australian Nat Young designed and shaped Magic Sam in early 1966, taking it to California to win the World Title on later that year. LEANDRO DORA, THE COACH BEHIND THE CHAMPS Leandro Dora has been playing an important role in Brazil’s surf scene over the past few years, and his independently developed method has had a positive impact on the careers of many surfers. TECHNICAL SURF COACHING Unlike conventional surf schools, this isn’t about standing up. At Surf Simply we identify the many specific skills behind the sport and then break down the mechanisms, making surfing accessible to everyone. Our team of 8 ISA and ILSF qualified coaches are surf geeks who work with just 12 guests each week, replacing ambiguous surf lingo with clear, concise, systemized coaching. We don’t teach you how to surf. We teach you how to teach yourself how to surf, or surf better through a combination of video feedback, theory lessons, andin-water coaching .
MORE THAN JUST SURFING Simply buy your plane ticket and we take care of everything else. We will pick you up from the airport and bring you to our resort here in Nosara. We will have already asked you about your surfing experience and goals and your preferences regarding every detail of your trip from massages, stretch classes and food, to extra activities like stand up paddle boarding, zip lining or horseback riding. After your stay
we’ll give you all your photos, video footage and
even a bespoke film about your week with us. You will leave filled with enthusiasm and a solid understanding of the sport, having received the most enjoyable surf coaching available, at one of the world’s safest, most picturesque and consistent surf spots. You can check our availability hereand email us
