Straight for Equality is a national outreach and education program created in 2007 by PFLAG National to empower new allies who, unlike a more traditional PFLAG member, don’t necessarily have a family connection to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and HEALTHCARE | STRAIGHT FOR EQUALITY Straight for Equality in Healthcare invites you to join the growing number of healthcare providers who want to find out more about what it means to be an ally in healthcare, learn more about the specific healthcare concerns/needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) community, and/or look for everyday actions they can take to support LGBTQ+ people at WHY YOU SHOULD GET INVOLVED Don't get us wrong—the goal is that one day we won't need to talk about the need for allies, equality and inclusion will rule, and none of this will be relevant. (At PFLAG National, we joke that our job is to do such a good job at achieving equality and inclusion that we’ll be able to put ourselves out of business.) WHAT'S THIS? PERSONAL PRONOUNS Members of the PFLAG National and Straight for Equality program staff include their personal prounouns in their email signatures. You might be wondering why. First, and most importantly, it is a quick and easy way to vocalize inclusion as well as to support, celebrate and affirm our transgender and non-binary colleagues. Second, it lets everyone we communicate with know where FAMILY | STRAIGHT FOR EQUALITY PFLAG started with families. For more than 40 years, we have been providing peer-to-peer support, publications, toolkits, and other resources to make sure that the family members of people who are LGBTQ get the support they need in the way that best serves their needs. This allows families to then further support, affirm, and advocate on behalf of their LGBTQ loved ones.
