SETH ADAM SMITH
My name is Seth Adam Smith. I'm an author, blogger, husband, father, and an advocate of suicide prevention. I started this blog to remind myself (and hopefully inspire others) to keep moving forward. In fact, moving forward is THE major theme of this blog. When I was twenty years old, I tried to take my life. Since then, I've learned moving forward—having a goal and working toward it—is THE LEGEND OF THE NORTHERN LIGHTS 'Look to the light and swim to the top of the Great Mountain. There you will find your home. There you will swim in the eternal river of the sky.' I worked on this legend (and video) for a very long time. I included it in my book, Your Life Isn't For You, with the sincere desire that it will help guide others forward. If it inspires you, please—as a special favor to me—share it with others. MARRIAGE ISN’T FOR YOU November 2, 2013. June 30, 2020. by Seth Adam Smith. Having been married only a year and a half, I’ve recently come to the conclusion that marriage isn’t for me. Now before you start making assumptions, keep reading. I met my wife in high school when we were 15 years old. We were friends for ten years untiluntil we decided no longer LIFE IS LIKE A GARDEN “Both abundance and lack exist simultaneously in our lives, as parallel realities. It is always our conscious choice which secret garden we will tend when we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that’s present—love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature, and personal pursuits that bring us —the wasteland of illusion TRUE LOVE SHOULD BE PAINFUL For whatever reason, we seem to have this funny idea that love is supposed to be bliss or that when we get married we've somehow achieved a state of 'happily-ever-after.' Well, that's just not true. Love is actually quite painful. In fact, if you're doing it right, love, marriage, and family will be the most painful things you'll everexperience.

We had just finished hiking through Bronco Canyon, an incredibly difficult but rewarding hike and set up camp near the beautiful Cherry Creek. MY BOOKS – SETH ADAM SMITH Rip Van Winkle and the Pumpkin Lantern Chased by a vengeful witch, hunted by an undead corpse, and guided by a secretive preacher, a boy must protect a magical lantern that can either save Boston . . . or destroy it. In October of 1730, young Rip Van Winkle sneaks into a graveyard and comes face-to-face with the ghost of William Blaxton, the first settler of Boston. WE BECOME WHAT WE WORSHIP We become what we worship. That is to say, we emulate—or become like—the people (and things) we most admire. To understand this concept, we have to understand the origins of the word worship. The word worship comes from the Old English worðscip or wurðscip —or worthship—meaning 'condition of being worthy, dignity, glory, distinction, honor, renown.' THE EMPTY JAR AND TEMPLE SEALINGS While my wife and I appreciated all of the many gifts, cards, and well wishes that we received at our wedding, there was one gift in particular that stood apart from the rest. At age 27, long before he would become the titan of Russian literature, Fyodor Dostoevsky was sentenced to four years of hard labor in Siberia for crimes against the state. More importantly, what is the primary message that these two authors---separated by geography JOSEPH SMITH'S LAST DREAM The following text is taken from an 1863 Salt Lake City Almanac published by W. W. Phelps. Digital photographs of the actual pages can be seen below. In June, 1844, when Joseph Smith went to carthage and delivered himself up to Gov. Ford, I accompanied him, and while on the way thither, he related to me and his brother Hyrum the following dream: He said: “While I was at Jordan’s in Iowa THE TRAGIC STORY BEHIND ST. BASIL’S CATHEDRAL In Moscow, Russia, at the far end of Red Square, stands the iconic and beautiful St. Basil's Cathedral. Once a church, this unrivaled structure was not built by a saint—nor was it originally made to memorialize any Christian virtues. It’s construction was ordered by the Tsar, Ivan Grasni, otherwise known as Ivan the Terrible and it was to commemorate his victories in war. DOES MY DEPRESSION MEAN THAT GOD HATES ME? A few years ago, when I was going through one of my darkest struggles with depression, I remember spending about two hours furiously scribbling over and over and over again, the phrase, “God Hates Me” in a notebook. My experiences with depression made me feel as though all of my hopes and dreams had turned to ashes. The heavensseemed silent.
GASP! THERE ARE HIDDEN MESSAGES IN DISNEY'S FROZEN! I've seen a lot of posts about the hidden messages in the Disney movie Frozen. Make no mistake about it, there most certainly are hidden messages in the movie. But perhaps they are much deeper than you think For those that haven't seen the movie, here's a little background: Elsa, princess of Arendelle, has a magical ability to create ice and snow. In what ways are these two books so similar? More importantly, what is the primary message that these two authors---separated by geography GASP! THE EMPTY JAR AND TEMPLE SEALINGS While my wife and I appreciated all of the many gifts, cards, and well wishes that we received at our wedding, there was one gift in particular that stood apart from the rest. An empty jar. Attached to it was a letter with a quote from S. Michael Wilcox and a note from some dear friends. I couldn't finish reading the letter (I got a little teary) and had to have Kim read the rest of it for me. EVERYBODY HAS A DISABILITY How do you move forward in life if you have a physical or mental limitation? How do you move forward in life if you have a disability? 'Really, everybody has disabilities,' says Cassi Baird. 'Some you can see and some are internal. But anybody can do anything that they want as long as they put their mind to it.' Born with cerebral palsy, Cassi Baird shouldn't even be able to physically say IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT RELIGION… Imagine a world without religion. Sounds pretty good, doesn't it? No religious bigotry, no 'righteous' judgement, no cruelty 'in the name of God,' no holy wars, no honor killings, and no shame in just being yourself. Truly, the world would be a better place without religion, wouldn't it? Well, let's try it out. Let's imagine what the world would be like without religion. THE TRAGIC STORY BEHIND ST. ABOUT SETH ADAM SMITH My name is Seth Adam Smith. I’m an author, blogger, husband, father, and an advocate of suicide prevention. I started this blog to remind myself (and hopefully inspire others) to keep moving forward. In fact, moving forward is THE major theme of this blog. When I was twenty years old, I tried to take my life. Since then, I’ve learned moving forward—having a goal and working toward it—is the key to living a purposeful, joyful life. In 2013, I published an article called “Marriage Isn’t For You.” The
article went viral. It was viewed _over_ 40 million times, translated into over 20 languages, and published as a beautiful gift book. My book, _Your Life Isn’t For You_,
details some of the lessons I learned before and after my suicide attempt. The response I’ve received from this book has been amazing and it’s currently being translated into Bulgarian, Czech, Romanian, and Russian. In 2015, I published by first novel, _Rip Van Winkle and the Pumpkin Lantern_ . Click on this link to see a full list of my published books. Every month, I publish_ Life Is Worth Living _, an email newsletter dedicated to sharing inspirational material. If you would like to receive this email please click here to sign up! If you would like to contact me about any of these things or if you have any other questions or comments please click here.
