DELL LAUNCHES 2021 LINE OF INTEL AND AMD SERVERS So back to the new releases, Dell is launching a full line of servers for 2021 with both AMD and Intel offerings. What SemiAccurate finds most interesting, other than the ship dates, is the product mix. Mainstream offerings are split between AMD and Intel machines, telco is all Intel, but GPU optimized is AMD on the high end. AMD ADDS PRO TO THEIR RYZEN 5000 MOBILE LINE Tweet. AMD is launching the Pro versions of their Ryzen 5000 Mobile line today. SemiAccurate thinks these parts will be open up lucrative new market segments for AMD. If you recall the Ryzen 5000 Mobile parts AMD launched last January, and you know how AMD phases launches, you are not going to be surprised by the release of this Pro variant. INTEL'S ROCKET LAKE CPU SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN MADE SemiAccurate is on record saying that Intel should not have launched this turkey and the details we can now share move the needle further in the wrong direction. Lets start our look at Rocket Lake with the good stuff. The complete list of up-sides SemiAccurate sees for this new Intel backport of a 10nm design is that it is officially out. Theend.
AMD LAUNCHES DESKTOP RYZEN 4000G/GE/PRO Jul 21, 2020 by Charlie Demerjian. Tweet. Today AMD is releasing the desktop version of their Ryzen 4000 APUs in both normal and Pro versions. Once again we will say that we like these chips but AMD’s non-disclosure of benchmarksetups
AMD FINALLY RELEASES MILAN/EPYC 7XX3 Today AMD finally launches Milan, the Epyc 7xx3 line, about six months after it went on sale. SemiAccurate can’t explain why this non-delay happened but now the server CPU is officially and publicly here.. The raw data. There are now 15 Milan SKUs, more if you count 1S/2S separately, ranging from the 8-core 72F3 to the 64-core 7763. A LONG LOOK AT AMD'S ZEN 3 CORE AND CHIPS In case you haven’t heard by now the Zen 3 core is all new. A few features were pulled in to the Zen 2 core because they could, but this device it is not evolutionary. Integer pipes go from 7 to 10, FP from 4 to 6, and everything is claimed to be better utilized. AMD described the goals of the new core as performance, latency, and efficiency. WHY DID MARVELL BUY INPHI? Nov 2, 2020 by Charlie Demerjian. Tweet. Last week Marvell purchased Inphi much to the puzzlement of most onlookers. SemiAccurate dug in to the deal and it became clear why the purchase was made. Lets start out by saying we aren’t going to write anything about the financial side of the Marvell/Inphi deal because we really don’t care about that. OVERCLOCKING INTEL'S HD 4000 While initially the voltage needed by these higher clocks was quite small, as we continued to increase the clock multiplier the HD 4000 needed exponentially more voltage to remain stable and produce artifact free images. WHAT IS INTEL'S FOVEROS TECH AND WHAT ISN'T IT? Lakefield Foveros. If you look at the Lakefield diagram you can read a few interesting things into it. One is that Foveros is a 2-high stack, face to face, technology not a multi-die stack ala HBM memory which currently goes to 8-high with TSVs instead of face to face. This is not just a sound card with a lot of channels, while the Audio Processors block does that it also does things like positional audio and beam forming for the Kinnect. Think of this more as a DSP block than a Sound Blaster. SEKONIX SHOWS A TINY DLP PROJECTOR ON A KEYCHAIN The basis of the Sekonix Blueberry projector is a TI DLP chip that put out 640*360 pixels, not that impressive until you realize that the device is about 1 x 1.5 x .5 inches or so. This size is not just for part of the projector, it is for everything, the DLP chip, light source, cooling, electronics, and optics. DOES DISABLING HYPER-THREADING INCREASE PERFORMANCE On average the 3770K with Hyper-Threading disabled offers only 90 percent of the performance of the same chip with this feature enabled. CXL CONSORTIUM OUTS CXL 2.0 CXL.IO is the base spec and it is compatible with PCIe5, in fact you can interleave the two protocols on a per-packet basis. CXL.cache adds coherence with the cache of an accelerator and CXL.memory is the protocol for coherence with external pools of memory. To these basic specs, CXL 2.0 added a few goodies. ANOTHER INTEL OUTSOURCING DEAL COMES TO LIGHT SemiAccurate brought you the first news of the GPU outsourcing in July, then the size of the TSMC order in October, and finally their most audacious plan a few days ago. If you run the numbers, this last one should cover Intel’s wafer start shortfall due to THE AMD/XILINX MERGER IS A REALLY SMART DEAL AMD finally made their bid for Xilinx official yesterday to the confusion of the financial world. SemiAccurate was a little apathetic about the merger until something clicked, then we were a lot more positive. At first our thoughts on the matter were the same mild confusion with echoes of the AMD/ATI merger, something which thisauthor was the
WHAT IS INTEL'S FOVEROS TECH AND WHAT ISN'T IT? Lakefield Foveros. If you look at the Lakefield diagram you can read a few interesting things into it. One is that Foveros is a 2-high stack, face to face, technology not a multi-die stack ala HBM memory which currently goes to 8-high with TSVs instead of face to face. With the caveat of, “this is just an illustrative diagram, not a technical OVERCLOCKING INTEL'S HD 4000 While initially the voltage needed by these higher clocks was quite small, as we continued to increase the clock multiplier the HD 4000 needed exponentially more voltage to remain stable and produce artifact free images. INTEL HAS NO CHANCE IN SERVERS AND THEY KNOW IT Intel is claiming that it will raise the bar by less than 20%, but that is before the process changes from the old 10nm to the new 10/12nm take a hit out of the gains. SemiAccurate hasn’t seen the new numbers in enough detail to say much other than performance will go down from the current goals. INTEL CORE I7 CAN WORK IN DUAL CPU MODE THERE HAS BEEN a lot of discussion about EVGA’s dual CPU board that was displayed during CES earlier this month. The main topic of discussion was what CPUs it would work with and most people presumed it was limited to Xeon processors. However, one of our sources informed us today that it’s possible to make a pair of LGA-1366 Core i7 processors work together, but it requires a few things.SEMIACCURATE

WHAT CAUSED INTEL'S DCG/DPG Q4 2020 SALES JUMP? The deal in question, singular, is nothing short of a massive sale.
