CORYDORAS SP. (CW010) Corydoras sp. (CW010) n reaching our 200th factsheet on ScotCat we are returning to arguably the most popular of the catfish families, namely the sub-family Corydoradinae and the growth, which seems weekly, of the unidentifiable new catches which are culminating in the CW numbers which have basically taken over the mantle left by the C-numbers SPAWNING CORYDORAS HASTATUS ll though similar in looks, habits and often confused by the aquarist, Corydoras hastatus and C. pygmaeus, Knaack,1966 have differing reproductive modes.Previous efforts to induce C. hastatus to spawn have met with no success, although spawning of their own volition had been observed in my Corydoras community tank, where two young C. hastatus have been produced over a six-month period. CORYDORAS SP. (CW140) This species is similar looking to Corydoras albolineatus from the Itenez River basin in Bolivia. Lineage: Placed in Lineage 9, the "short-snouted" species with the designated type species: C. punctatus. A revision and a description in the future would constitutethe
SYNODONTIS LUCIPINNIS (FORMERLY SYNODONTIS PETRICOLA "DWARF") Synodontis lucipinnis (formerly Synodontis Petricola "dwarf"): by Benoît Jonas. ynodontis lucipinnis is a small catfish from Lake Tanganyika, its life takes place in the shelter of the rocks between which he slips like a little shady shark. It feeds by skimming biological coverage's and perception, through its barbels enabling it to detect the slightest whiff, the slightest appetizing smell. SYNODONTIS LUCIPINNIS Spotting the differences: If you look closely at the top picture of S. lucipinnis you will notice a clear patch or window at the base of the ventral and anal fins, this does not occur in S. petricola.Another more important difference is a feature called the axillary pore which is an opening just below the humeral process (which is a bony structure on the body just above the pectoral fins and SPAWNING SYNODONTIS PETRICOLA Spawning Synodontis petricola: by Harold & Derek Walker: he spawning of different species of Synodontis catfish used to be quite rare a few years ago. While in the last few years more and more people are having great deal of success breeding different Synodontis catfish. BRACKISH WATER CATFISH Brackish water specialists. Catfish that tolerate brackish water are one thing, but species that actually prefer brackish water conditions are something else. Mystus gulio is one such species. It is a large bagrid catfish known in its natural range (South and South East Asia) as the estuarine catfish, a good indication of its preferred habitat. CORYDORAS SP. (CW045) CW45 Similar to Corydoras armatus but with no spots and possesing an orange blotch to the head. Found alongside CW057. Sometimes this species can take on a very dark appearance which may point to the colour and make up of the substrate or different water parameters. CORYDORAS PARALLELUS BURGESS, 1993 Similar to C. schwartzi but this species does not posses the orange blotch in the predorsal region and the first ray of the dorsal is transparent or greyish black whereas C. parallelus has the first ray of the dorsal black. This species was first given the C-Number ofC002.

SCOTCAT FACTSHEETS: JUNE 2021: PSEUDOHEMIODON LATICEPS are have finely reached the 300 factsheets mark on ScotCat from over the last 24 years (1997 to 2021), and so on to the 300th factsheet for June 2021 which takes us to the popular Loricariidae family and a look at one of the largest whiptails around, namely the Giant Whiptail Catfish or Broadhead whiptail, Pseudohemiodon laticeps. SCOTCAT FACTSHEETS NOVEMBER 2019: LAMONTICHTHYS LLANERO Lamontichthys llanero - ventral view. This genus are not the easiest to keep in captivity as they will need to be fed on the right vegetarian food such as algae paste on flat stones which can be a bit of a hit and miss so would need to be tried on other veg foods andalso
PSEUDOLAGUVIA RIBEIROI (HORA, 1921) Habitat: Benthopelagic.Inhabits pools and runoff areas of swift streams. Also found in mountain rapids. Feeds on worms and insects.SYNODONTIS EUPTERUS
The adults will eat a wide variety of foods and that is the key to keeping Syno's fit and healthy, a wide varied diet. They will take flake, tablet food, prawns, shrimps and frozen bloodworm. Synodontis: Ancient name for an undetermined fish from the Nile (Cuvier 1816). eupterus : Good fins. SCOTCAT FACTSHEETS:MARCH 2021: TACHYSURUS TRILINEATUS The factsheet of March 2021 brings us to the Bagridae family and one of the most prettiest looking in the form of Tachysurus trilineatus. Tachysurus trilineatus is still valid in some publications as Pseudobagrus trilineatus but Eschmeyer's Catalog of Fishes has Tachysurus as the current genus name with Pseudobagrus trilineatus asa junior synonym.
SYNODONTIS PETRICOLA Keeping Synodontis petricola as with the other Lake species tends to be a little diverse from your run-of-the-mill Syno's as water parameters are different with the p.H. tending to be on the alkaline side, and they are best housed in a large tank ( 3ft or over ) with Cichlids from the Rift Valley Lakes with a coral substrate, or tufta rock, to keep the p.H. up if you are in a soft water area. CORYDORAS SP. CW028, CW28 This species occupies the same or overlapping geographic area as Corydoras pulcher and may turn out to be a colour varient of this species. The differences between the two is that C. pulcher has one black line to body and C028 has two. It has been given the CW (CorydorasWorld) number of 28. Lineage: Placed in Lineage 9, the"short-snouted

CORYDORAS SEMIAQUILUS WEITZMAN, 1964 This species can be very variable in its body markings. Sympatric with C. fowleri. Placed it in Lineage 1 and when there is a revision they will stay as Corydoras (Lacépède, 1803) with the type species of C. geoffroy La Cépède, 1803. Carr: uite a number of articles have been written over the years about Hoplosternum pectorale - the smallest of the three species of Hoplosternum. However having kept this fish for about five years, spawned them and their offspring on many occasions I feel some of my observations may be of interest. SYNODONTIS NIGRIVENTRIS Synodontis nigriventris was first described in 1936 and caused quite a stir when it was first exported in 1950.One of the first articles on 'the curious fish that swam upside down' was by Fraser-Brunner in the November 1950 edition of Aquarist & Pondkeeper and he pointed out that this upside-down catfish may have been new to the aquarium hobby but was not new to the ancient Egyptians who SPAWNING SYNODONTIS PETRICOLA Synodontis petricola can and have been spawned using this method although we have not had any success with the host fish, we were able to breed them a different way. In order to do this all you need is a large flowerpot, a clear plastic bowl (2-3" tall) and some blue or black marbles, the darker the marbles the better, black is the bestfor this.

Catfish that tolerate brackish water are one thing, but species that actually prefer brackish water conditions are something else. Mystus gulio is one such species. It is a large bagrid catfish known in its natural range (South and South East Asia) as the estuarine catfish, a good indication of its preferred habitat. HYPANCISTRUS SP. (L173B) This line is being offered by German wholesaler Aquarium Glaser. They imported some wild L173 many years ago and placed them with some of their trusted breeders. Offspring are coming out every now and then, but only “L173b” are listed. These are less zebra-like in their markings than what L173 can be. “L173b” is not an official number SYNODONTIS LUCIPINNIS Spotting the differences: If you look closely at the top picture of S. lucipinnis you will notice a clear patch or window at the base of the ventral and anal fins, this does not occur in S. petricola.Another more important difference is a feature called the axillary pore which is an opening just below the humeral process (which is a bony structure on the body just above the pectoral fins and CORYDORAS DAVIDSANDSI BLACK, 1987 Relevant Information: This species is found in the middle stretches of the Rio Negro in Brazil and is a look-alike. It has the same colouration as C. metae from the river of the same name in Colombia but davidsandsi has a longer snout and the black stripe carries on into the bottom lobe of the caudal fin while C. metae stops short atthe caudal
CORYDORAS EVELYNAE RÖSSEL, 1963 Similar to C100 and is rare in imports. Discovered in the upper Rio Solimoes by Dr Herbert R. Axelrod and named in honour of his wifeEvelyn.
SPAWNING CORYDORAS HASTATUS ll though similar in looks, habits and often confused by the aquarist, Corydoras hastatus and C. pygmaeus, Knaack,1966 have differing reproductive modes.Previous efforts to induce C. hastatus to spawn have met with no success, although spawning of their own volition had been observed in my Corydoras community tank, where two young C. hastatus have been produced over a six-month period. CORYDORAS SP. (CW111) Relevant Information: One of the most breathtaking new species that has been recently discovered (2016). Placed in Lineage 9, the "short-snouted" species with the designated type species: C. punctatus. A revision and a description in the future would constitutethe
