It accomplishes this first by making us humble. In Romans 3:9-12 Paul makes clear that there is no difference between Jew or Gentile, for “all are under the power of sin.”. ORIGINAL C.S. LEWIS 'MERE CHRISTIANITY' BROADCAST In the dark days of World War Two in England, a man named C.S. Lewis began giving 15-minute talks on BBC radio. The series of talks, originally under the title of “Right and Wrong: A Clue to the Meaning of the Universe,” would eventually be turned into Lewis’ classic work Mere Christianity.. This 15-minute audio clip is the only surviving audio from the C.S. Lewis radio broadcasts. IF GOD ELECTS PEOPLE TO SALVATION, WHY EVANGELIZECALLED TO SHARE THEGOSPEL
In short, evangelism is still necessary in light of God’s sovereignty in salvation for two main reasons: 1) God has commanded us to do it, as this is His chosen means of advancing His kingdom on earth. We have the privilege of being used by God to accomplish His will. When God answers the prayer of someone for food, He sends aperson with
A (VERY) BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BAPTIST CHURCH Particular Baptist churches can trace their origins to John Spilsbury, who started a church in London in 1633. While Spilsbury’s church and similar congregations were taking shape in England, Baptist churches were also beginning to take root in the English colonies – particularly in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. HYMN STORY: WHEN I SURVEY THE WONDROUS CROSS Isaac Watts (1674-1748) was an English hymn writer and wrote over 750 hymns in his lifetime, many of which are still sung in churches today. Read about how Watts got started in hymn writing after a sarcastic comment from his father: 1 Matthew Arnold declared the greatest Christian hymn in the English language to be “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.” THE BOOK RECOMMENDATION THAT CHANGED GEORGE WHITEFIELD’S The Book Recommendation That Changed George Whitefield’s Life. Each of these covenants is reflective of two of the main categories of covenants known in the Ancient Near East: Suzerian-Vassal: This term harkens back to a time when a king would make a promise to his subjects, or atreaty
WHAT IS THE REGULATIVE PRINCIPLE OF WORSHIP The opposite of the Regulative Principle is the Inventive Principle, which has Roman Catholicism as its chief proponent. Rather than Scripture providing the directive for how we are to conduct public worship, the church is seen as the final authority in such matters. WHAT YEAR WAS JESUS ACTUALLY BORN? “What year was Jesus born? What kind of question is that!?” If our calendar is broken up into B.C. (Before Christ) and A.D. (anno Domini, the year of our Lord) doesn’t that mean Jesus was born in year one (since we don’t count year zero)?Actually, the issue is a bit morecomplex than that.
WHO WERE THE PHARISEES, SADDUCEES, AND ESSENES As of the New Testament period, the Pharisees were the largest of these three groups and had the most power. They are mentioned several times in the gospels as being on the receiving end of Jesus’ rebukes ( Matt. 3:7; 23:15; Luke 11:39; John 9:39-41 ). They are also the group associated with instigating His arrest, trial, and crucifixion. C.H. SPURGEON ON UNCONDITIONAL ELECTION C.H. Spurgeon considered Unconditional Election to be one of the greatest truths in the whole of revelation. This is the third article in the series “C.H. Spurgeon on the Doctrines of Grace,” which discusses Spurgeon’s views on Calvinism as seen in his preaching and writing. Spurgeon unabashedly preached on the reality of election and the sovereignty of God in saving sinners. DID LUKE WRITE THE GOSPEL OF LUKE? Of the remaining possibilities, the consensus of early Christian tradition points to Luke as the author of Luke-Acts. This is what was passed on by Irenaeus and Tertullian, and the earliest manuscript of this gospel has the inscription “According to Luke.”. THAT'S THE WRONG QUESTION This is as true of the atheist as it is of the person who sits in church every week in an attempt to earn their salvation apart from God’s grace.
