Then, more recently, LG Chem was able to surpass Panasonic by supplying battery cells to most legacy automakers when they came onboard with electric cars, but also NCM 712 BY LG CHEM: E66A AND E78 BATTERY CELLS IN DETAIL We now know for sure that the South Korean battery cell maker has at least two different NCM 712 battery cell models. The E78, which is a long battery cell aimed for more modern electric cars with flat and simpler battery packs and the E66A, which is a smaller battery cell better suited for electric cars with non-flat battery packs. CATL’S NCM 811 BATTERY CELLS ARE PROBLEMATIC CATL’s NCM 811 battery cells are problematic. GAC Aion S was probably the first electric car to be available with NCM 811 battery cells and expectations were extremely high for this model. However, its 58,8 kWh (96 x 3,6 V x 170 Ah) battery pack made with NCM 811 cells from CATL suffered some serious safety problems that damaged the COMPARISON OF DIFFERENT EV BATTERIES IN 2020 (UPDATE Note: the chart above is a bit outdated considering that now NCM 811 battery cells can easily surpass 1.000 cycles before reaching the EOL (End of Life). However, it still shows us that NCMA, which combines the best characteristics of NCM and NCA chemistries represents a solid improvement. In both cases you’re only using 80 % of the total battery cell capacity. If you can get modules with the Gen 4 cells from a Nissan LEAF 40/62 kWh battery it might be worth it, since those are NCM 523 cells. RENAULT MÉGANE E-TECH ELECTRIC IS ALMOST READY FOR MASS I agree with you, Leaf is the standard for new EV hatchbacks. I had an extensive test with ID.3, which is of similar specs (slightly bigger), and my personal experience is it is a roomy car.
