ON THE WALL: NAKED BEFORE THE CAMERA Pulled from the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art’s permanent collection and opening today is “Naked Before the Camera”—a tight, brief primer of the history of the nude in photography that looks at art’s most ancient theme expressed in one of its youngest mediums. If this sounds a little racy for the Met, you might right. HOW TO: PROCESS AND SAVE RAW FILES Step 1 Debbie Grossman. Because RAW files must be converted before you can edit them, opening a RAW file from Adobe Bridge automatically brings up Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), the conversion plug-in that comes with Photoshop. To start the process, simply find your image in Bridge and double-click on it. Step 2 Debbie Grossman. CAMERA TEST: NIKON D7200 DSLR Dipping down to nighttime-level darkness of EV 0, the Nikon D7200 could focus and shoot in under a second. LENS ADAPTERS: AN INTRODUCTORY GUIDE Unfortunately, not every lens is adaptable to every camera system. Most adapters are made for use with older lenses that have manual aperture rings, which must be adjusted by the user. Many modern lenses, such as the Nikon 14–24mm, have electronic aperture control that won’t work on other cameras. Adapter manufacturers have workedaround
HOW TO SHOOT A RODEO A. I shot it with the Canon EOS-1D, which has a very fast burst rate, so all these pictures happened in less than 1 second — the actual exposure was 1/1000 sec at f/4, ISO 200. The lens is a 300mm f/2.8, again Canon. When I first started shooting rodeos, I worked with the rodeo writer Duane Erickson. He showed me how to do it properly. HOW TO: MASTER AVEDON LIGHTING The fix: Throw less light on the background and/or move your subject forward, away from it. To give his portrait the Avedon look, S.L. Dixon chose one of the easiest setups for producing it based on indirect sunlight. Popular Photography.
