_“City Confessions #2 London is a mostly recent study on the city of London. Although some photos in this book go back over 20 years, the majority were taken over the past decade on numerous trips. Since the mid 1990’s, once or twice a year I find myself in London for a few days or weeks at a time and end up on long walks shooting photos with my Leica. The pictures in this book were chosen to highlight a particular shade of London I have always found interesting, Moments of weariness, furtive glances and subtle gestures within a densely populated city center as the swarms of people perform the ceremony of getting through another day.”_
-Ed Templeton
The City Confessions series is a collaboration between photographer Ed Templeton and the book publisher SuperLabo based in Tokyo. Each volume presents a photographic story about a specific city that Templeton has spent significant time working in over multiple years. The series will be released periodically and later be slipcased together as offered as a set. Although the work is often documentary in nature, these books are not meant to be a comprehensive documentation of a city but rather a visual diary describing the rhythms of an urban center as Templeton wanders the streets making photographic notations on the social fabric, architecture, and details of interest. Each edition features a specific edit and sequence of photographs offering Templeton’s observation of a city and the humans existing within it, like a film set on location where the scenes play out with a cities’ well known landmarks in thebackground.

Ari Marcopoulos’s new book Denied captures the artist’s distinctive vison of photography, one that is disarmingly intimate and spontaneous and ultimately grounded in an almost cinematic understanding of the way images accumulate significance when juxtaposed alongside one another. A diaristic record of work, travel, and artistic collaboration, the book, like all of Marcopoulos’s work, bears witness to the present moment we are currently living through and its inescapable relationship to other time and places. On one level Denied chronicles a trip from New York with a stopover in London to Athens, a place Marcopoulos spent a lot of his childhood vacations, staying with relatives. His uncle would take him to Olympiakos games, when the stadium resembled an ancient Greek stadium with instead of marble a concrete stepped arena, since long replaced by a modern stadium with a well-maintained green field instead of the brown dirt pitch of olden days. Marcopoulos’s book summons memories of these two states of Athens, where now affluence is hidden in a few neighborhoods while the rest of the city crumbles. Edition of 800 copies.Ask a question

_The Roadmaker _is a new retrospective book of work by photographer James Barnor drawing from across his career, demonstrating his modernism and inherent skill as a colourist. The publication of the book coincides with the exhibition _James Barnor: __Ghanaian Modernist_ at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery from 17 May 2021 as part of Bristol Photo Festival, and a major retrospective of Barnor’s work at Serpentine, London from 20 May 2021. James Barnor (b.1929) was Ghana’s first international press photographer. He came from a family of photographers and established his own studio in Accra, Ever Young in 1950. He worked from this studio at the time of Ghana’s independence whilst also selling his pictures to the _Daily Graphic_ and _Drum_ magazines. He came to Britain in 1959, and whilst working in a factory, he took photography evening classes at the London College of Printmaking and lessons with the Colour Processing Laboratory in Kent. He went on to study at Medway College of Arts, where he gained employment as a technician, eventually returning to Accra in 1969, where he established X23, the city’s first colour photography studio. He returned to London in the1990s.
In 2009 the 80 year-old photographer revealed his archive to two London curators. His archive is a remarkable document of post-war modernity spanning photographs from the time of Ghana’s independence, scenes of multi-cultural London, and later images recording a strong postcolonial identity in Ghana. The metaphor of the road in the book’s title, suggests the continuity between the past and the present, tradition and progress, and the links between generations and peoples of different contents present in Barnor’swork.
The book includes an essay by Dr Damarice Amao, photography historian and curator, and is translated into English by Mélissa Laveaux. ENGLISH EDITION OF 1000 COPIES.Ask a question

Following the survey monograph, this publication is dedicated to Masahisa Fukase’s emblematic series on his two cats: Sasuke and Momoe, combining unpublished and iconic images. In 1977, Fukase turned his lenses on his new companion Sasuke. Growing up with felines, he decides with the arrival of this new cat in his life that it would become a photographic subject in his own right, fascinated by this creature full of life named after a legendary ninja. Sasuke disappears after ten days and the photographer sticks hundreds of small posters (as featured on the cover of the book) in his neighborhood. A person brings back his cat, yet it is not Sasuke but never mind he welcomes this new cat with as much affection. One year later, he takes a second cat named Momoe, entering the frame as well and he will never get tired of photographing their games. They become for the Japanese photographer a boundless experimental field leading to an extraordinary body of work in its technical and visual inventiveness. As often in his work, this series shows a form of projection of the photographer into his subject. The cat, a faithful companion who never leaves him, takes the place of his wife, eternal heartache, later represented by the iconic fleeing crows. His cats have been the subject of several books in his lifetime and Tomo Kosuga has dug into the photographer’s archives to conceive this ultimate book as the achievement of a series of publications devoted to his cats. With tote bag. Due in stock w/c June 21st, reserve your copy now. _Video courtesy of Atelier EXB._Ask a question

Christopher Anderson’s first child, Atlas, was born in 2008. He began photographing that experience in a completely organic and naive way. It was the natural action of a new father trying to stop time and not let one drop of the experience slip through. As a photographer, he had never photographed his own personal life. It never occurred to him that these photographs would be part of his “work”. They were external from what he considered his Photography. He was about two years into making those photographs when it dawned on Anderson that these photographs were, in fact, his life’s work and that everything he had done up to that point was a preparation for making thosepictures.
They became the book, SON, published in 2012 which portrayed a moment in time in Williamsburg Brooklyn, post 911 and the 2008 economic crash when artist lofts still made up the community before the luxury condos squashed the landscape. Pia could be called the spiritual sequel to that book. But this time, it marks a new era and search for hope in the Trump/ COVID19 reality. This time, Anderson’s daughter, Pia, is the protagonist and muse, and the backdrop is his French family’s return to Paris (Anderson became a naturalized French citizen in 2018). _“The images portray a father-daughter relationship as well as a photographer-subject collaboration as the Pia’s takes control of her character. The passage of time comes with a certain melancholy, but also a declaration of hope that guides the photographs.”_ - Christopher Anderson2ND EDITION.

My mother moved to her new partner’s place with me in the middle of the forest called „Bremerhof“ when I was about 14 years old. I really didn’t get along with my stepdad. Not because he wasn’t my real dad or anything, but simply because we were as different as two persons can be. I also have to admit that it probably wasn’t easy for him either. He cared about money and things being organized while the only thing on my mind was skateboarding. We were completely talking at cross-purpose and both of us felt misunderstood like little boys all the time. My poor mother… One year later my half brother was born, Jascha. It felt awkward to me. Everything felt awkward to me at that time. I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to interact with him. About three years later I moved out and was happy to be on my own. After a while my mother broke up with my stepdad, so she moved with Jascha to an old farmhouse 200 meters away. I really liked Jascha but the few times I was visiting weren‘t enough to get to know him. He once told me that one day he will own a kiosk in order to make a living, which really impressed me. I gave him a skateboard but he wasn’t too much into it and always left it outside in the rain. When I was visiting I always took a few pictures of Jascha, but only around easter in 2020 I really started to follow him around and to document him. And it was crazy because only then I realized how good it felt to spend time with him and that my camera was the best excuse for that. His company allowed me to be completely careless and childish. Although he cares more about other beings than anyone else I have met so far. All these things that he loves felt so similar to me. Like, there is nothing that gets him as excited as his chickens. What skateboarding was for me, is tennis for him (wich I don’t really get, but whatever). And somehow he is such a sensitive person, wich doesn’t make things easy, especially as a boy. My mother often says that she is going through the exact same things with him as she already did with me. Thank you, Jascha. I’m happy that my mother got together with your father when I was one year older than you are now. Honestly. I’m proud to be your brother.– Josh
