It is a narrow valley lined with steep cliffs, but it does widen out in some places. The setesdal moors lie on both sides. HYGIENE - NORSK FOLKEMUSEUM Washing machine. Up until the 20th century, laundry was manual and physically tiring work. Water had to be carried. The Old Town. The Old Town contains buildings from Christiania (Oslo) and some of its suburbs, and Chrystiegården from Brevik and Barthegården from Kragerø. THE APARTMENT BUILDING Wessels gate is situated between the West End and the East End of Oslo and used to be an area occupied be the middle class, or rather petit bourgeoisie, mostly shopkeepers, craftsmen and employees with some upper middle class and some working class elements. CAFE - NORSK FOLKEMUSEUM Café Arkadia offers an informal atmosphere for your visit. The café is situated by the main entrance, next to the Visitors' Center. A ticket to the museum is not required to visit Café Arkadia. KING OSCAR II'S COLLECTION King Oscar II's Collection. Established at Bygdøy in 1881 as the first Open Air Museum in the world. FROM PRACTICALITY TO PLEASURE Knitting interest and knowledge have varied in the 1900s. There have been great variations both in what was knitted and how it was done. Knitting became more widespread in the middle of the 19th century. It was at this time the first two-colored sweaters were made, for example in Setesdal and Fana. From a national point of view THE APARTMENT BUILDING The 19th Century Apartment Building from Wessels gate 15 in Oslo contains eight period interiors and three exhibitions. In 1998 OBOS – Oslo Cooperative Housing Cooperation – offered Norsk Folkemuseum Wessels gate 15, an old three-storey brick building from down town Oslo. Wessels gate 15 was built in 1865, and was very typical for the FROM LUXURY TO EVERYDAY USE From Luxury to Everyday use. King Oscar II was king of Sweden and Norway, and he financed the relocation of five buildingsto the site.

THE APARTMENT BUILDING The 19th Century Apartment Building from Wessels gate 15 in Oslo contains eight period interiors and three exhibitions. In 1998 OBOS – Oslo Cooperative Housing Cooperation – offered Norsk Folkemuseum Wessels gate 15, an old three-storey brick building from down town Oslo. Wessels gate 15 was built in 1865, and was very typical for the CAFE - NORSK FOLKEMUSEUM The café is situated by the main entrance, next to the Visitors' Center.
