MARNE 1914 - MUSÉE DE LA GRANDE GUERRE 14-18 À MEAUX In this impressive space, we’ve gathered uniforms from the start of the month from French, German, Belgium and British soldiers. They illustrate the first Battle of Marne. On 5 September 1914, the Germans are on Paris’ doorstep and the Allies are mobilised to defend the capital. The battle happened on a 300km front going from Senlis toVerdun.
GOOD REASONS TO VISIT Time travel! Turn back the clock to 1870 in order to understand the situation before war broke out. LE MUSÉE DE LA GRANDE GUERRE : UNE VISITE INCONTOURNABLE En 2011 naissait le Musée de la Grande Guerre de Meaux. Constamment enrichies depuis, ses collections valent largement le voyage ! Il s'agit tout simplement de la plus vaste collection de documents et d'objets sur la Guerre de 1914-18 en Europe. Les espaces d'exposition attractifs et didactiques à la fois en font une destination de choix pour les familles, mais aussi les groupes scolaires. Le Musée de la Grande Guerre de Meaux est implanté au pied du monument américain de Frederick MacMonnies, 30 minutes de train de la capitale. Cette statue colossale américaine de 21 mètres était offerte en 1932 par les citoyens américains en mémoire des soldats tombés pendant les batailles de la Marne. Découvrez également la terrasse du toit où le musée offre une vue panoramique extraordinaire. EXPOSITIONS SUR LA PREMIÈRE GUERRE MONDIALE Le Musée de la Première Guerre mondiale, dans le département du 77, séduit par ses collections permanentes avec des objets soigneusement sélectionnés pour comprendre l’histoire de ce conflit d’une manière chronologique ou thématique mais aussi par ses expositions temporaires sur la guerre de 14-18. ⚠️INFORMATION
IMPORTANTE ⚠️ A la suite des intempéries la nuit dernière, une partie de la tête du Monument Américain est tombée et divers blocs de pierres ont bougé. Ce monument, inscrit à l'inventaire des Monuments Historiques, a été inauguré à Meaux en 1932 et donné la Ville de Meaux. Haut de 26 mètres, sculpté dans 226 blocs de pierre de Lorraine pesant chacun entre 2 et 9 tonnes, il a été offert par le peuple américain en souvenir de la première bataille de la Marne, en septembre 1914. ⛔Un périmètre de sécurisation a été mis en place par la Ville de Meaux propriétaire du monument. Une expertise est diligentée pour faire un diagnostic sur l'état de la sculpture. Pour des raisons évidentes, l'accès au site est interdit jusqu'à nouvel ordre.
