25 RECENT PICTURE BOOKS WITH TRANSGENDER AND NONBINARY Today is the Transgender Day of Visibility, so I'm celebrating by rounding up 25 (!) picture books with transgender and/or nonbinary characters that have been published in 2020 and 2021 alone. (I'll also show you how to find older trans-inclusive kids' books and ones for and about trans parents.) AUTHORS PUT PERSONAL EXPERIENCES INTO TWO-MOM PICTURE BOOK A series of seven books about a girl with two moms, which first launched 10 years ago, is now complete—a work of love by two sisters and a friend. The Jessie Books include one story for each day of the week as they follow a young girl named Jessie on her everyday adventures with her moms, relatives, friends, and nanny in Queens, NewYork.
DO LESBIAN MOMS CELEBRATE FATHER'S DAY? June 19, 2015. Father’s Day is this Sunday—a holiday that might seem to exclude children with only moms. The reality is a little more complex. Here are some things to keep in mind: Some two-mom families celebrate one of us on Father’s Day; others pile both moms onto Mother’s Day. Sometimes, Father’s Day is used to honor a donor or HOW DO CHILDREN OF LESBIAN PARENTS RELATE TO THEIR SPERM The National Longitudinal Lesbian Family Study (NLLFS) has focused on the same group of subjects over many years (what researchers call a “longitudinal” study) and offers a picture of lesbian-headed families that few other studies can match. "THE BARE NAKED BOOK" IS AN ALL-GENDER-INCLUSIVE The Bare Naked Book, by Kathy Stinson and illustrated by Melissa Cho (Annick Press) is an updated edition of Stinson’s 1986 book of the same name.“Every body is different” it asserts, before proceeding to offer colorful spreads about different body parts, including hair, eyes, noses, arms, legs, and more. WHAT DO KIDS CALL THEIR SAME-SEX PARENTS? Here’s what I’ve discovered—with help from many of you. Several years ago, I posted an online form to collect your responses about what your kids call you . The results keep coming in, which is wonderful. We’ve got lots of “Mommy” and “Mama,” but also“Anya”

STATE DEPARTMENT ENDS POLICY THAT DENIED CITIZENSHIP TO In a significant victory for equality this week, the U.S. State Department has ended a policy that had denied birthright citizenship to children born abroad to married same-sex parents born abroad if the U.S. citizen parent was not biologically related. This also ends years of uncertainty for at least one two-mom couple who have been fighting for their child's citizenship. DISNEY JUNIOR'S "T.O.T.S." GAIL ANN DORSEY
Gail Ann Dorsey is a recent discovery from the Olivia cruise I just took. Her rich, powerful voice is a welcome antidote to the many female singer-songwriters who can barely project across a coffeehouse stage. Dorsey is no novice, however, with a career covering twenty years, including nearly a decade as touring bassist/vocalist for DavidBowie

Mombian is a lifestyle site for lesbian moms and other LGBTQ parents, offering a mix of parenting, politics, diversions, and resources. I founded Mombian in 2005 after noting a lack of sites with current, practical news and information for LGBTQ parents, or sites that looked at other aspects of LGBTQ culture with a parent’s eye. I hope lesbian moms (and others) will find something interesting and perhaps worthy of conversation. I also created and host the annual #LGBTQFamiliesDay (formerly Blogging for LGBTQ Families Day) event, which began in 2006. For more, see the Aboutpage.
