The National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace (the Standard) – the first of its kind in the world, is a set of voluntary guidelines, tools and resources intended to guide organizations in promoting mental health and preventing psychological harm at work. MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), www.mhfa.ca, is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Just as physical first aid is administered to an injured person before medical treatment can be obtained, MHFA is given until appropriate treatment is found or until the crisis is resolved. Home to millions of people from different backgrounds and cultures, more than 200 languages are spoken across the country, with 20% of Canadians having a language other than English or French as their mother tongue. MENTAL HEALTH INDICATORS FOR CANADA In order to paint a more complete picture of the mental health landscape in Canada, the MHCC presents 55 indicators reflecting mental health for children and youth, adults, and seniors.
