KING'S CROSS STATION The transformation of King's Cross station represents a compelling piece of placemaking. The new Msheireb Mosque is located within the Msheireb Heritage Quarter. John McAslan + Partners' design fuses Modernist ideas with an historically familiar arrangement of Islamic volumes, spaces and thresholds. The concept evolved from the traditional Qatari mosque and follows the principles of simplicity, functionality and spirituality. BRITISH EMBASSY ALGIERS This scheme is the first example of contemporary Modernist architecture in the Algerian capital. Designed for future flexibility, the Embassy building signals Britain’s long-term political, cultural and commercial links with Algeria. The building’s environmental performance has a BREEAM ‘Good’ rating, making it one of Algeria’s most environmentally sophisticated buildings. The design is a collaboration between Al Jazeera’s creative and technology team and John McAslan + Partners, as interior designers of the office, together with Veech X Veech, as designers of the broadcast news studio and adjacent newsroom. The scheme comprises 72 apartments, which benefit from impressive views over private, south-facing landscaped gardens, with good orientation and natural daylighting. BRITISH EMBASSY ALGIERS This scheme is the first example of contemporary Modernist architecture in the Algerian capital. Designed for future flexibility, the Embassy building signals Britain’s long-term political, cultural and commercial links with Algeria. The building’s environmental performance has a BREEAM ‘Good’ rating, making it one of Algeria’s most environmentally sophisticated buildings.GEORGE SQUARE
George Square is one of Britain’s great city-centre civic spaces. The new Msheireb Mosque is located within the Msheireb Heritage Quarter. John McAslan + Partners' design fuses Modernist ideas with an historically familiar arrangement of Islamic volumes, spaces and thresholds. The concept evolved from the traditional Qatari mosque and follows the principles of simplicity, functionality and spirituality.
