INNER MIGRATION
For over a year now, the world as we knew it has changed in every possible way. Our existence has been turned upside down, and become defined by lockdowns, curfews, confinements, restrictions, flight bans and border closures. This led us to think about the concept of migration in times of global immobility and isolation. TOP GOON - MASHALLAH NEWS Top Goon, Diaries of a Little Dictator is a finger puppet show featuring Beesho, a caricature of president Bashar al-Assad, that was put together by a group of ten young Syrians. Mashallah News had the opportunity to interview Jameel, who came up with the idea. The concept of Top Goon came about during the second month of protests.A METRO FOR GAZA

PIDGIN MADAM, A NEW LANGUAGE This language, which Bizri calls ‘Pidgin Madam’, is a very creative mix of Singhalese and Arabic, used by Sri Lankan maids and their employers. Spoken naturally by numerous Lebanese in contact with Sri Lankan workers, ‘Pidgin Madam’ was barely considered a language before Fida Bizri published the results of her research. I would often stay up in bed, tossing and turning till the late hours of night, planning the exact details of the next day. I would try to remember the funny joke I heard from one of my parents, so that I could re-tell it to my best friend on BEIRUT'S YELLOW HOUSE The Yellow House was to play a strategic role during the Lebanese Civil War, which broke out in 1975 and lasted 15 years. During the war, there were two areas in Beirut — East and West — separated by a demarcation called the Green Line, in reference to the greenery that surrounded it. I remember tracking their incessant displacement and continued misery from our living room in Syria while watching the news with my father.
