A seasoned IP professional with over 35 years’ experience, Hosik leads Marconi’s efforts in South Korea. During his career, Hosik has been responsible for all aspects of intellectual property matters, including litigation, arbitration, patent licensing, asset acquisition and strategy. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President of Licensing at Samsung’s IP Center inSeoul.

Micky Minhas is Senior Vice President for Marconi. Before joining Marconi in March 2020, Micky was Chief Patent Counsel for Microsoft, managing the Microsoft patent group since 2012. Primarily responsible for outbound and inbound intellectual property licensing, patent strategy, patent acquisitions and divestitures, he also managed patent preparation and prosecution of patents and was responsible for Microsoft’s conflicts, indemnification and prelitigation practice. Prior to Microsoft, Micky served as Vice President of Patent Strategy at Qualcomm in San Diego, California. Micky holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Marquette University, an MS in Electrical Engineering from George Washington University and a JD and LLM from the University of New Hampshire, where he continues to work as the Franklin Pierce Distinguished Professor of IntellectualProperty Practice.

Mark brings more than 30 years of IT industry experience to Marconi, working for blue-chip companies including IBM, Motorola and Nokia. Mark’s broad expertise includes business and technology marketing and communications leadership. Until January 2020, Mark led communications for Nokia Technologies, the company’s licensing business, responsible for global external, executive and employee communications, spanning licensing, litigation and regulatory affairs. Earlier roles included leading communications teams for corporate business development, the Nokia Research Center and several complex M&A transactions. A Chartered Marketer and Accredited PR Practitioner, Mark has a BSc in Biological Sciences from the UK’s University of East Anglia and a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.ILKKA RAHNASTO
Ilkka Rahnasto joins Marconi as Senior Vice President, where he brings in-depth knowledge in all aspects of intellectual property and business experience that will be vital in helping Marconi realize its vision of transforming the fundamentals of patent licensing. Rahnasto joined Nokia in 1997, becoming head of the IP function in 2003 and serving as deputy chief legal officer from 2010-2014. He has led the company’s patent business since 2014, managing one of the industry’s broadest and strongest patent portfolios, including a leading share of wireless SEPs. In July 2018, he also took on leadership of technology and brand licensing efforts, as SVP of Nokia Technologies, the licensing business of Nokia. In 2015, Nokia became one of the few companies to report more than $1 billion in annual licensing revenue, with growth continuing through 2017 when licensing revenues exceeded €1.6 billion. Ilkka has a law degree from the University of Helsinki (1989) and an LLM from George Washington University (1996).LAURIE FITZGERALD
A patent licensing professional and IP attorney, Laurie has more than a decade of experience in resolving disputes between patent owners and technology developers. Her expertise spans licensing transactions, patent acquisitions and divestitures, portfolio strategy and valuation, and patent litigation. Laurie joins Avanci from its affiliate Teletry, where she facilitated the licensing of BlackBerry’s extensive portfolio of patented technologies to smartphone and telecom infrastructure manufacturersaround the world.
Before her career as a licensing professional, Laurie practiced trial law as a Principal in the US-based law firm of McKool Smith. Her practice spanned all aspects of patent law, with a focus on disputes relating to standards development organizations and fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licensing terms. Laurie earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Southwestern University and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. She is based inDublin, Ireland.

Tawn Merrill is a trusted strategic partner with a diverse background in human resources, crossing multiple industries. Her deep experience in driving organizational change and recruiting world-class teams is a key asset to Marconi as the company grows. Prior to joining Marconi, Tawn was the Director of Global Talent Management at Anadarko Petroleum, where her work leading the company’s recruitment, onboarding, leadership development and training programs was instrumental in its recognition as one of Houston’s Top 5 Workplaces. Additionally, she has served as Director of Human Resources for Hillwood, a Perot Company, and Manager of Human Resources at Pepsico Food Systems and Pacific USA Holdings. Tawn received her bachelor of science in organizational administration at Oklahoma State University, and holds numerous certifications including Senior Professional in Human Resources. She is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management and Chair of the OU-OSU Executive Education Advisory Board. Tawn believes in giving back to the community and has served as Chair of Heroes for Children 5K, Volunteer Coordinator for the Hockaday School and done pro bono Human Resources support for the Montgomery County Foodbank. Mark comes to Marconi with more than 25 years of experience in major law firms and leading legal functions within large international organizations, with a focus in the areas of technology, outsourcing, telecommunications, mergers and acquisitions, and financial transactions. Mark provides legal guidance and counsel to support the growth and success of the Marconi platforms. Before joining Marconi, Mark served as Vice President and Associate General Counsel at Hewlett-Packard. In this role as a member of the executive team, Mark determined the strategy and structure for strategic business transactions and new initiatives, oversaw legal and commercial activities for significant lines of business, and drove programs to improve business performance. Earlier in his career, Mark was Of Counsel in the Global Outsourcing and Technology practice group of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, a large international law firm, where his practice focused on complex multinational information technology and business process outsourcing transactions. Mark has also served as Director and Senior Legal Counsel for Nokia and Senior Counsel for EDS. Mark began his career as an associate with the banking and finance practice of Johnson & Gibbs, a national Dallas-based law firm. Mark holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law and a bachelor of business administration in accounting from Northeast Louisiana University. Les Ware, co-founder of Marconi, has spent more than 20 years analyzing, evaluating and monetizing intellectual property portfolios for corporations, partnerships and individuals. Philip Blazek, CFA, has 25 years of experience in corporate financial management, mergers and acquisitions, investment analytics, public capital markets, and strategic transformation. Most recently, Philip was the President of Specialized Diversified Opportunities, where he transformed the publicly-traded company from a biotech company into a public holding company for diversified acquisitions. He also served as Managing Director at Korenvaes Management LLC, a family office focusing on deep value debt and equity investments. Prior to this, Philip was the founder and president of Blazek Crow Holdings Capital, LP, an active investment fund focused on small cap public companies and formed in partnership with the TrammellCrow Family Office.
Earlier in his career, Philip worked in investment banking for Wasserstein Perella and Goldman Sachs. He served on the board of directors of Myers Industries as part of a transformative effort to guide the company toward higher investment return and growth. Kirk brings more than 20 years of experience in intellectual property management and licensing to the team. Mostly recently, Kirk led Patent Transactions for Google where he created and led the team focused on strategic cross licensing and community based licensing solutions. During this time, he formed many strategic relationships with global partners and played a vital role in the sale of Motorola Mobility to Lenovo, receiving the Deal of Distinction award by the Licensing Executive Society. Prior to Google, Kirk led licensing for Motorola Mobility, reorganizing and rebuilding the licensing business to generate billions in revenue and, ultimately, packaging the portfolio as a substantial part of the $12 billion acquisition of Motorola by Google. Kirk holds a Juris Doctor from DePaul University, a Certificate in European Legal Studies from Tulane University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan.KASIM ALFALAHI
Kasim Alfalahi is the co-founder of Marconi, as well as the founder and CEO of Avanci, where he is leading the mission to simplify patent licensing and make technology available for everyone’s benefit. An engineer by trade, Kasim is driven by the philosophy that great ideas happen when all parties contribute to the technology ecosystem. In his previous role as Chief Intellectual Property Officer for Ericsson, Kasim led the company’s intellectual property business where, under his direction, patent licensing became fundamental to Ericsson’s global success – generating $1.7 billion in revenue in2015.
Kasim left Ericsson after more than 20 years with the vision of a new way forward for patent licensing. His goal of bringing fairness, transparency and predictability to the process is reflected in his new platform, Avanci, which provides the first one-stop marketplace for IoT devices. The market’s overwhelmingly positive response to Avanci’s transparent model triggered requests for more industry-wide licensing solutions, spurring the creation of Marconi. A true global citizen, Kasim has lived in six countries and speaks four languages. With over 20 years of experience in global technology and intellectual property leadership, Eric is using his deep relationships and understanding of the licensing ecosystem to develop new opportunities and cutting-edge licensing platforms for Marconi. Eric joins Marconi from Qualcomm, where he was senior vice president and general manager of Qualcomm Technology Licensing. There he played a lead role in driving growth for the company’s licensing programs. Previously, he was a partner in the Silicon Valley office of international law firm Dewey & LeBoeuf, where he chaired the global technology and intellectual property group, and was a partner in the Palo Alto office of Cooley Godward, where he led the firm’s technology transactions practice. Kasim Alfalahi is the co-founder of Marconi, as well as the founder and CEO of Avanci, where he is leading the mission to simplify patent licensing and make technology available for everyone’s benefit. An engineer by trade, Kasim is driven by the philosophy that great ideas happen when all parties contribute to the technology ecosystem. In his previous role as Chief Intellectual Property Officer for Ericsson, Kasim led the company’s intellectual property business where, under his direction, patent licensing became fundamental to Ericsson’s global success – generating $1.7 billion in revenue in2015.
Kasim left Ericsson after more than 20 years with the vision of a new way forward for patent licensing. His goal of bringing fairness, transparency and predictability to the process is reflected in his new platform, Avanci, which provides the first one-stop marketplace for IoT devices. The market’s overwhelmingly positive response to Avanci’s transparent model triggered requests for more industry-wide licensing solutions, spurring the creation of Marconi. A true global citizen, Kasim has lived in six countries and speaks four languages. He received his Master of Science degree in Engineering and Management from Linköping Institute of Technology inSweden.
ILKKA RAHNASTO
Ilkka Rahnasto joins Marconi as Senior Vice President, where he brings in-depth knowledge in all aspects of intellectual property and business experience that will be vital in helping Marconi realize its vision of transforming the fundamentals of patent licensing. Rahnasto joined Nokia in 1997, becoming head of the IP function in 2003 and serving as deputy chief legal officer from 2010-2014. He has led the company’s patent business since 2014, managing one of the industry’s broadest and strongest patent portfolios, including a leading share of wireless SEPs. In July 2018, he also took on leadership of technology and brand licensing efforts, as SVP of Nokia Technologies, the licensing business of Nokia. In 2015, Nokia became one of the few companies to report more than $1 billion in annual licensing revenue, with growth continuing through 2017 when licensing revenues exceeded €1.6 billion. Ilkka has a law degree from the University of Helsinki (1989) and an LLM from George Washington University (1996).KIRK DAILEY
Kirk brings more than 20 years of experience in intellectual property management and licensing to the team. His record for creatively solving problems and addressing complex business challenges drew him to Marconi’s vision of a new way forward for patent licensing. Mostly recently, Kirk led Patent Transactions for Google where he created and led the team focused on strategic cross licensing and community based licensing solutions. During this time, he formed many strategic relationships with global partners and played a vital role in the sale of Motorola Mobility to Lenovo, receiving the Deal of Distinction award by the Licensing Executive Society. Prior to Google, Kirk led licensing for Motorola Mobility, reorganizing and rebuilding the licensing business to generate billions in revenue and, ultimately, packaging the portfolio as a substantial part of the $12 billion acquisition of Motorola by Google. Kirk holds a Juris Doctor from DePaul University, a Certificate in European Legal Studies from Tulane University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan.ERIC REIFSCHNEIDER
With over 20 years of experience in global technology and intellectual property leadership, Eric is using his deep relationships and understanding of the licensing ecosystem to develop new opportunities and cutting-edge licensing platforms for Marconi. Eric joins Marconi from Qualcomm, where he was senior vice president and general manager of Qualcomm Technology Licensing. There he played a lead role in driving growth for the company’s licensing programs. Previously, he was a partner in the Silicon Valley office of international law firm Dewey & LeBoeuf, where he chaired the global technology and intellectual property group, and was a partner in the Palo Alto office of Cooley Godward, where he led the firm’s technology transactions practice. Eric holds a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude and served as Executive Editor of the Harvard Law Review, and Bachelor of Science degrees in physics and mathematics from M.I.T., where he was named the top male scholar-athlete in hissenior class.

Micky Minhas is Senior Vice President for Marconi. As part of the Marconi management team, he plays a vital role supporting Marconi’s vision of transforming the fundamentals of patent licensing through providing better ways to share patented technology. Before joining Marconi in March 2020, Micky was Chief Patent Counsel for Microsoft, managing the Microsoft patent group since 2012. Primarily responsible for outbound and inbound intellectual property licensing, patent strategy, patent acquisitions and divestitures, he also managed patent preparation and prosecution of patents and was responsible for Microsoft’s conflicts, indemnification and prelitigation practice. Prior to Microsoft, Micky served as Vice President of Patent Strategy at Qualcomm in San Diego, California. Micky holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Marquette University, an MS in Electrical Engineering from George Washington University and a JD and LLM from the University of New Hampshire, where he continues to work as the Franklin Pierce Distinguished Professor of IntellectualProperty Practice.

Mark comes to Marconi with more than 25 years of experience in major law firms and leading legal functions within large international organizations, with a focus in the areas of technology, outsourcing, telecommunications, mergers and acquisitions, and financial transactions. Mark provides legal guidance and counsel to support the growth and success of the Marconi platforms. Before joining Marconi, Mark served as Vice President and Associate General Counsel at Hewlett-Packard. In this role as a member of the executive team, Mark determined the strategy and structure for strategic business transactions and new initiatives, oversaw legal and commercial activities for significant lines of business, and drove programs to improve business performance. Earlier in his career, Mark was Of Counsel in the Global Outsourcing and Technology practice group of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, a large international law firm, where his practice focused on complex multinational information technology and business process outsourcing transactions. Mark has also served as Director and Senior Legal Counsel for Nokia and Senior Counsel for EDS. Mark began his career as an associate with the banking and finance practice of Johnson & Gibbs, a national Dallas-based law firm. Mark holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law and a bachelor of business administration in accounting from Northeast Louisiana University. A patent licensing professional and IP attorney, Laurie has more than a decade of experience in resolving disputes between patent owners and technology developers. Her expertise spans licensing transactions, patent acquisitions and divestitures, portfolio strategy and valuation, and patent litigation. Laurie joins Avanci from its affiliate Teletry, where she facilitated the licensing of BlackBerry’s extensive portfolio of patented technologies to smartphone and telecom infrastructure manufacturersaround the world.
Before her career as a licensing professional, Laurie practiced trial law as a Principal in the US-based law firm of McKool Smith. Her practice spanned all aspects of patent law, with a focus on disputes relating to standards development organizations and fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licensing terms. Laurie earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Southwestern University and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. She is based inDublin, Ireland.

A seasoned IP professional with over 35 years’ experience, Hosik leads Marconi’s efforts in South Korea. During his career, Hosik has been responsible for all aspects of intellectual property matters, including litigation, arbitration, patent licensing, asset acquisition and strategy. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President of Licensing at Samsung’s IP Center inSeoul.

Philip Blazek, CFA, has 25 years of experience in corporate financial management, mergers and acquisitions, investment analytics, public capital markets, and strategic transformation. As CFO, Philip serves in a key role in Marconi's vision to make technology sharing simpler by directing financial strategy, business planning, and operations. Most recently, Philip was the President of Specialized Diversified Opportunities, where he transformed the publicly-traded company from a biotech company into a public holding company for diversified acquisitions. He also served as Managing Director at Korenvaes Management LLC, a family office focusing on deep value debt and equity investments. Prior to this, Philip was the founder and president of Blazek Crow Holdings Capital, LP, an active investment fund focused on small cap public companies and formed in partnership with the TrammellCrow Family Office.
Earlier in his career, Philip worked in investment banking for Wasserstein Perella and Goldman Sachs. He served on the board of directors of Myers Industries as part of a transformative effort to guide the company toward higher investment return and growth. Les believes that a transparent process for patent licensing, focused on reasonable agreements that are beneficial for everyone in the ecosystem, is imperative to supporting and sustaining the pace of technology advancement. An inventor himself, Les holds several patents for water safety and regulation apparatuses. Additionally, she has served as Director of Human Resources for Hillwood, a Perot Company, and Manager of Human Resources at Pepsico Food Systems and Pacific USA Holdings.
