WHAT IS LE RÉVEILLON? Le réveillon is the evening before Christmas (Christmas Eve) and the evening before New Year’s Day (New Year’s Eve). In both instances the evening is a celebration involving a gathering of family and/or friends and a celebratory meal. The term derives from the word reveil meaning wake up, as in both cases it’s necessary to stay awake late into the night to celebrate. BIRTHDAY PARTIES IN FRANCE Birthday Parties in France – And What Not To Do. I was drinking my coffee this morning in a reflective mood remembering this day 16 years ago when I hoped my first baby would be born; the date was 9.9.99 and I liked it as a birth date. THE BEST FRENCH TV SERIES TO WATCH Au Service de la France is a spoof comedy about the French Secret Service in the 1960s. André Merlaux is a young trainee officer undergoing a series of tests and assignments under the watchful eye of his operations manager. Mixing parody and satire, Au Service de la France uses real events as a base for its storyline. AMERICANS ON THE FRENCH RIVIERA Americans on The French Riviera: The Cap d’Antibes and Juan les Pins. Cole and Linda Porter stayed in the Château de la Garoupe above the beach of the same name on the Cap d’Antibes in 1921-22 inviting many friends to stay, including Gerald and Sara Murphy. The Murphys came back the following year and stayed in the Hotel du Cap, which is 13 OF THE BEST HILL VILLAGES NEAR NICE St Paul de Vence. St Paul de Vence is probably the most well known of the Côte d’Azur hill villages owing to its association with some of the world’s greatest artists. In both instances the evening is a celebration involving a gathering of family and/or friends and a celebratory meal. The term derives from the word reveil meaning wake up, as in both cases it’s necessary to stay awake late into the night to celebrate.BLOG - LOU MESSUGO
