Forty years later a writer hired me to trace their ancestry for a book he was writing. Cardwell purchased Matilda, EMIGRANTS FROM OBERTSCHÖNTAL, WÜRTTEMBERG GERMANY During the 19th century, 70 residents of Oberschöntal, a relatively small town in the Kingdom of Württemberg, left there to seek a better life in America. The following list of those emigrants has been compiled from the Family Register books of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oberschöntal (Oberamt Backnang).
